Keeping Engine Cool In Marginal Conditions.....

Great idea. I’m going to be giving it a try. The spring loaded scratchers that come standard on the summits stick down about 2.5“. if you have a 2.8” or 3” paddle they are virtually useless. Even with a snow flap. Just a fact.
There is always that couple of miles of trail to get to the jumping off spot.
Thanks

I have a ‘19 sp with stock scratchers and a removable snow flap, 3” track. I had no problems keeping cool for 5-600 miles last year, many miles with my girlfriend driving and no flap, always runs around 3 bars. Just my experience.

these are hard to beat and will quickly drop engine temp. i've had the temp bars rapidly making their way up the gauge with the stock scratchers down , deployed the tunnel mounts and watched the bars quickly drop down to two and stay there for miles on solid ice.

I don't know if I'd be going around promoting that.. If that chain wraps around a good sized stump or the right rock, it'll be game over for your front end. might be a good idea to zip cut the side of one link.

good point plus i wouldn't want loops of chain on my skis in general plus having to stow them when not needed.

I appreciate and like this idea. We are in Utah and frequently the road is iced snowy but doesn't kick up any snow onto the track to cool the snowmobile. This is even worse with the expert and 2020.5 and 21 turbos. This is a trail/road that has snow but is closed to traffic for the season that has to be driven to get to the riding areas. Idahodoo's idea isn't to ride all day with these but to use them only in these low snow/icy areas that don't normally kick up much snow. I find myself having to pull over even when it's negative outside to kick snow on the tunnel. A little more snow coming from some chains that are light and I can pull off easy for the rest of the day is a welcome idea to try. thanks @idahoskiguy

You have totally grasp the concept........The chain loops are only to get you extra cooling on icy low or no snow conditions. The loops are easy on easy off, weight very little, take up little space and IMHO are easier to deal with than the removable snow flap or extra scatchers.

Additionally, in late spring hard frozen conditions the loops can aid in descending steep icy sloops.
