Snow Removal

How many inches/feet deep will it be during cleanup? I think that would be a determining factor on which route to go.

I'm sure Walmart will have shovels on sale soon......

Front mount plow would be the fastest method.
The amount of snowfall would determine size of truck.
Heavy snow accumulation will require front end loader to occasionally clean windrows.

I prefer a snow blower, but 1 mile would take forever unless it's a huge blower.

Here's my attack vehicle in the winter......
32 hp JD 3203 model, 60" Meteor blower, and loader.
Kinda pricey, but that's what I have to have to live here.
tractor w/ loader--- 17,000
blower--- 1,700

As stated above, you can only push snow so far, hence the need for the blower.

Good thing is, is I have use for the tractor yr round, ie pastures, landscaping, spraying, etc. It all depends on what you can afford and what is more useful in your neck of the woods. Some of the older Deere, Kubota, Case, Massy's, etc compact tractors go for pretty cheap if you watch the auctions and the papers. Let me know if you want more info, I have some connections to the older tractor/implement market.

Too small and I would never have a blower on the back, where I had to turn around....too old for that! We have a Kubota with a blower on the front, about that same size.

At times have to move 2-3-4' at a whack.

I'll zip over and clear it out with our trust Volvo L90 with 8 way directional plow ..should take 20 minutes tops .....

Right on H2!

Trying to stay away from expensive, impractical stuff. Personally, I would hire it out instead of owning a piece of eqpt that will sit most the year. He wants a D5, I told him to forget it.

Hmmm.....Unimog. :)

a unimog would be badass!

ummm your in trout creek? if you pay my fuel ill bring my quad down there and plow ya out

oh we have an old massey ferguson for sale, 3500 its a T0-35, its got a PTO and i could see if i could borrow my dads snowblower, it would be a little more per trip but you wouldent have to turn around i would :D and im a youngun i could only do it on the weekends or after school

I agree with ya opus, turning around SUCKS BIG TIME, but, my tractor does not have a mid pto, plus I can use either the loader or blower without having to unhook one or the other.

Just giving my opinion and answer to the original ?. It's all good:beer;:)

Quad....LOL!

Had a Versatile with a blower on it once, that wasnt bad. Didnt have to turn around at least. :)

Frogger........I happen to know where a front mount that has rear PTO connection is. I think it will fit your toy. If not, we can orderone.

As for the original question, front mount snow blower works best as you can move the snow further out of the way. Some of the snow blower manufactures are making a rear mount (snow) blower that functions as the tractor is moving forward or reverse, thus eliminating the turn around and look problem. These machines will not go through the super deep stuff going forward though.

I happen to be in touch with the equipment market.

snow blower on a skid steer

Agreed.

Skids are great in the snow and ice. Fantastic traction. Turn around no longer an issue..

The blowers have plenty of ooomph and even the new ones are reasonably priced.

Plus, you're not stuck with a machine that is useless the rest of the time.

A skid steer with full box chains, we use one with a high flow blower, it gives you a couple extra feet of throwing capacity. A bonus is that you can unhook from the blower and hook up to the bucket in jsut a couple of minutes.

WE spent the extra money to buy one with a cab because we had always blown snow with out a cab and rear mount blower before.

also another route is that if you go down and talk to your rental shops at like bobcat, cat, deere, gehl, thomas, ect you could probably swing a deal where you had no monthly charge and just charged on the hours used. you'd have to buy a blower and chains though.

we did the rental thing like that for 2 years and it worked sweet. not everywhere will do it though.

we tried one with tracks once and found that on ice and hills you had a expensive sled with no steering when you have the blower on the front. thats hwo come we opted for a tire machine. it might not be too bad it it's fairly flat but around our cabin it was a no go.
