Snow inside Nitro front end

hairdryer?

I have experienced this too, and that snow freezes into ice, which then freezes the toolbag into the nose of the sled.

I used a hairdryer to heat up the area yesterday so I could get the tools out but I would be screwed if I had to access them on the hill. I put a knife in my tunnel bag so I could cut the toolbag open in a frozen in emergency.

What a lame design...

After riding there is lots of snow in the front end around the tool kit. Anyone find a simple solution to fix this.

I prefiltered the 2 big screened openings on the side panels and the two upper holes on the hood. Hardly any snow inside now.

Good thing about riding a yamaha, you seldom take the side panels or hood off when you ride.:beer;

Here's what I did...the following will keep 99% of snow out.

pre-filter over the the vents on the side panels and hood

foam around the headlight and duct tape over the vent underneath

Prefilter Material

What are you using for prefilter material and where can I get some?
There is a huge block of ice in the nose of my sled right now. Got an electric heater pointed at it right now but it's a slow process. TIA

ice block

I did a 2 hour trail ride and the engine turn into a block of ice. It took 4 hour to melt it all out.I'm going to change the skis and do the vents.

I bought a big sheet of this a few years ago for a rev and have been trimming away at it ever since. Works like a charm, some guys have also had good luck with pet proof screen material from the hardware store. I've never used that material.
The SLP stuff keeps all water and snow out and still has good flow. I used a black adhesive silicone to hold the filter in the top hood holes. I built new wire mesh coverings and riveted them and the prefilter on the side panel vents. That way I don't have to worry about the occasional tree branch knocking in the stock screens anymore.

There's some other good products out there but this one works for me.
Hope it helps.

yep, pet proof screen over all the open holes AND stock vents.

i dont run the stock headlight, but can see where it could get into all those cracks too..
i have a screen/mesh to block my open headlight hole.

the couple times i've checked, there was no to very little snow build up in this area...if anything it may have worked in through other cracks in the nose/suspension area..

Thanks Hillclimber. Think I'll order some. I fought this problem all last season and am getting sick of dealing with it.

nose full of snow

I'm dealing with this as we speak, that is a terrible design. I like that prefilter stuff. Are any of the aftermarket screen maker dudes on top of this yet??
