snow conditions. rabbit ears and surrounding.

Had a buddy that rode up there yesterday, said there was around 4 feet of decent base with more in the trees and north slopes, plus about 18" of fresh soft stuff (i think they call it powder?) up top of that. Haha he said there are still a few "treasures" here and there so be careful but it's definitely getting close to that point where you don't have to worry so much.

Was up there today, first outing with the new sled. As mentioned in the post above once you got up into the trees and headed north, was pretty good. There are still a few hidden bombs - found a couple of them, nothing major though. Awesome day!

i would watch the weather. if we get another good storm without a ton of melt before it hits i think you would be good to go. i've been really suprized how good it has been.

ps... if you got the itch ya might as well scratch it!!

But the doc said not to itch...

Heading up there next Wed. Riding Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Never rode in the ears before. Super stoked.

We were out 2 weeks ago and it was pretty good especially for early season. As a matter of fact we found more fresh than we have in later months in previous years. Of course you need to watch out for what may be under there this time of year.

I would say go.......if all else fails drink some beer!

Grizzly Creek Campground???

How is the snow from the parking lot near Grizzly Creek Campground, is it OK up to Buffalo Pass?? we will be there tomorrow morning, just checking if we can ride from there or we need to trailer all the way to Hwy. 40... we are staying in Walden. Thanks!!!! :thumb:

We always stay in Walden so cant say how it is from the Steamboat side, its closer than driving down to the ears so we usually ride at least one day there. The road going to the lot isnt always plowed so be carefull of that but the trail going up to the tower is usually in good shape and there is a short cut to save a few miles of trail to get up top.

How is the access to the Buffalo Pass riding area from the Walden side versus the Steamboat side? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Coming from east your best access is from the Walden side. It would be another 1 1/2 hrs drive around to get to the parking area on the Steamboat side. You could ride up to the top from the Walden side in less time. The parking on the Steamboat side is very small. If you have a truck and trailer you better get there early to park (like before 8). From the parking lot 2/3s of the way to the top is trail ride as it goes through a skier only area.

The snowmobile folks that run through there haven't operated up there yet, but might this weekend, which means if you are headed there this weekend you should be good.

What road(s) do you take from Walden do you take to get to the Buffalo Pass parking area from the Walden side? Is that parking area big enough for enclosed trailers? Thank You

Take highway 14 south about twelve miles from walden. There is a brown forest service sign that will say buffalo pass on it. Turn west and go probably 5 miles. There's a y in the road. Stay left. It's another 2-3 miles from there. There is plenty of room for trailers.
