hello, I have a question for you guys. so I'm looking to buy a timber sled track kit for the winter, but would my 2003 cr250r 2 stroke have enough power for a ST track kit?

short answer, maybe-not really.

450+ is ideal. you will have fun bombing trails and such with the 250r but the 450 class bikes really have what it takes to haul the track in deep snow.

I would ask the BC guys who have done a couple of YZ250s. I can't see why not. They are only a few ponies down from a 300. Different power and though. Will have to ride it more aggressive than a 450

We never said it was easy, just that it looked cool.

Nonsense, CR250 works fine. Ride it like you stole it and remember you can only go if you're on the pipe. I ran one for a few months, had a ton of fun in spring snow

I would think you could have fun in decent conditions for it. But it will be screaming all day. The other question is what your weight is, that could be a deciding factor. back when I rode my 250 heavily I weighed about 120, was a nice combo...

Thanks for your guys help, I think I'll give it a try on the cr250r my bike has some upgrades like fmf gnarly pipe, v force3 reeds, powercore 2 exhaust and some other odds and ends. however I will be putting a APT smart carb on it, if the power does not make me happy I'll put a ESR 325 big bore kit on it.

I have a yz250 and it rips...nthing done to it just short track and go...super deep as well, it is bc after all

vid on 250 filming other two bikes are 500 ktm and 450 ktm

You will be fine and will have a ton of fun. You will need to be pretty busy with gear changes keeping it on the pipe in the powder. It'll run as good as a lot of the older 450 4 strokes guys are putting kits on.

enough power?

hello guys! i thought to build snow bike out of my 1994 cr 125, do it have enough power? it puts about 35hp at wheel. and i live in Finland and here isn't big hills and three feet of powder :face-icon-small-dis

Sick!! Something for the kiddos!!
seoinage, what you weighing these days? Can't wait to see how the sx track does with your 5 hundy!! I ordered a LT for mine but i plan on a big snow year! Of course i thought the same thing the last three years. Rode my CR out in the desert this weekend and theedamn thing kept trying to loop out on me! God I hate summer. What month is it?

Yeah, I sometimes wonder if I should have at least done the ST track instead. I'm in the 190's weight wise, fast part of it is done, going to take it relatively steady from here, weigh maybe 185 come winter.

My 450 did that when I bought it, I went to a larger sprocket on the rear, and thought oh boy it will be even shorter, so I added an extra link, advanced the timing so now the tire breaks loose rather than locking up, and now I can keep the front end down.

I'm really surprised at all this rain in the summer. Even with the rain, I know if I hit the dirt it will be too hot. I can't wait for winter, but I have a lot of work on this machine still.

I'm about 170 myself. No room to lose any weight so i am just trying to be as strong as possible come winter. Track decision was definitely a tough one. I don't think you can go too wrong though--any track is gonna be awesome!
I don't have much time to tinker in the summer so I bought a ready to ride bike. It will be a dedicated snow bike soon. I just took it out to dial in the jetting and make sure everything was good. i might have to get another one for summer though because this thing is fun to ride!

I'm assuming you can't go too wrong either, I think the 2.5" track will help as well. A lot of people in Utah using an LT, I'll be riding Utah a bit so hoping I can still keep up with others. Lots of good dirt biking out there as well.
