What would be wrong with just strapping a small (1.5 gal.) can directly on top of the extruded cooler on the XP tunnel extension?

xrider ......i have always liked u ...we think a lot a like u know that....i just got back from the lumber store with some stainless steel u bolts this is what im going to do , but i will use a cyclel tie down strap to hold it on....i bought 2 of them for 6 bucks at menards .( our lumber company) there a medium duty which will be way more than enough...and i have a 2 gal can..
i have a friend who has a 154 08 xp and he says he has never ran out of gas .........my light comes on but i have at least 3 gal gas left ..but this is what im going to do also...

Also, Doo makes a nice plastic cover for the cooler so the cooler fins don't slice through your can.

I did something just like this to my 08 with nothing on the cooler. two years so far and I have not lost my 15$ gas can yet.

I have been eyeballing this too. no Fing way I'm buying one from skidoo for what they are charging.

One thing I have been thinking about is getting the tie downs positioned really close to the cooler so nothing is flexing. ie: drilling the holes somewhere right near the rivets the hold the coolers onto the tunnel. Take a look at a doo holder. There is alot of flex in the tunnel when its sucked right down = not good.

Can't beat Wildchild's rack. Looks fantastic, great price, adjustable to hold a gas can of any size, and a tool box. weighs next to nothing. elevated above the cooler.

so you dont have scratches all over you tunnel
Shouldn't be any scratches at all. I also have a very thin rubber mat cut to the exact size of the can to go under it and it's riding all on the extruded cooler. (Besides I wouldn't tolerate scratches ) The anchors are called "pad eyes" (in the above picture) and are a marine hardware item...stainless and better than a bungy to the bottom of the tunnel. You'd hardly see them if you decided not to use the can.
I put the skidoo can thingy on my buddies XP and I don't need that big of a can and it's kind of homely :face-icon-small-fro

Lemme know how it works when you pound up a whoopy trail for 15 miles....

I did the very same thing on my ZX, and when the straps get wet and a little loose.. well the rest is history.. LOL

the doo can has a nice base that keeps it off the tunnel so you dont have scratches all over you tunnel and it doesn't slide around at all

Where can I find one of those, black?

kurt is the man, in Canada, wildchild is user on here. Also bob at vortech mfg in montana makes a nice one too. We don't use the rack, rubber pad fits over the cooler so it won't slide around (or very little) or scratch the tunnel. We take the can off when jumping, but for all the extra bumpy trails where we ride, we haven't lost one yet. Also we have some new straps for the rack guys, Bob and Kurt have seen them, also on our site at link below. PM me for more info.

you mean the 1x1 perforated galvanized steel?

Let us know how it turns out, with pics please.:D

i would have to measure it... but look up at your garage door and you will see the angle iron with holes in it that is holding your garage door up.....i cut it with a 4 1/2" grinder than u can buy threaded rods that will take washers and bolts and use them in anyof the holes that u want .....its really simply for me im just looking at mounting 4 u clamps and than attaching a 2 gal low profile gas can with cheap cycle straps and than put the nice skidoo tunnel bag on the back from that.........
all take any pics that i do...right now sled is in shop..

How about you build one, mount it on your sled and we'll see how it looks.
