SLYDOG Powderhound 7" wide skis, are they any good?

Overall, they were OK...

The new 8" Powderhounds are a rock solid ski.... They have the pivot point relocated... much better ski... One of the best that I've used in fact....I've always used the "Shaper" wear bars and the things track through the corners very well... at 8" the flotation is excellent!

Do you think the 7" wide skis have the same attributes that you mentioned?

Thanks,
-John

If you are talking about a brand new pair of new stock 7" Powderhounds made in the last year... then yes, same attributes.

If you are talking about an older stock or used pair of 7" ... then no... that older ski is still a good ski, and it needs the "shaper" wear-bars .

Like anything else, if the company cares about their products, like SlyDogs does, then they evolve their products and make improvements over the years.

X3 on the 8" Skis, although was able to try out the latest version of the 7" Powderhounds last year and I think I may actually like them a little bit better. Will have more notes this year.

I went 8". If they are to wide they go on the nytro and I will get some 7". Got them from Randy.

BM,
Please elaborate on your above statement... are you saying that you just may like the latest version 7" wide as much, if not a bit more, than the 8" wide ski?

Thanks,
-John

Great ski... I'd go with the "Shaper" wear bars.

The new ones are about as related to the original design as a Pro RMK is to a 2007 Dragon.

I ran a set of powderhounds for a couple of years. Personally, I thought they had good flotation but were too flimsy and spongy.
After the first season, i could see they had a big bend in them from tip to tail. IE: the mounts were the low spot and the tip and tail were slightly raised. If you look at them cross section-ally, they have the least material to keep them stiff of any ski that i know of. I really noticed them bend (more than I thought they should) when i would have to pop over a fallen tree or cross a small stream or ditch, etc....
I took them off as I was afraid they would buckle under a good impact or log crossing and send me flying over the handlebars...
BTW I didnt like the poweder pros.. But I do like the simmons gen 1 and gen 3..
