SLP twin pipes under 3000ft

i have a 2002 RMK 800 with a SLP boost bottle, vforce 3 reeds, SLP can and a gutted airbox and i have been told i will have to run a mix of race fuel and pump gas or just race fuel and i was wondering if i can get away with premium and some octane boost?

maybe, but it's a lot cheaper to run a gallon or two of 110 than to rebuild your engine. I live at sea level and have seen many sleds running these pipes burn down, don't risk it.

Yes, you need to run very good fuel with those pipes, especially on an '02 800RMK. You might think about changing to the '03 and newer needles to richen the midrange and then use '03 and newer jetting specs.

But you'll still have to run a little race or av gas under about 4-5k feet in my experience. I use av gas, not race gas in my sleds that require a little better fuel. Just mix in a couple of 3 gallons of av or 110 and you'll be fine.

If all/most of you riding is down low you may consider going with a lower compression head if race fuel is not an option.

another thing that will help those pipes at low elevation is opening the stingers (the outlet of the pipe going to the can) up to 32 or 33 mm, this will help reduce the amount of heat backup it the motor.

why would you have to do anything besides fatten your jets. we have pipied sleds down here all the time. 1200'

RMK head is 13.5:1....higher than most sleds and higher than the XC since RMK's are usually used at higher elev. Throw on a set of pipes that stuff the cylinders more than the single and the combination of compression and timing is too much to be safe on pump gas. Bigger jetting may make it live but it won't perform for poop....pipes HAVE to be hot to work as designed.

winter brew lies all the time. He cheats in races too and on his taxes. :-)

Originally the RMK heads were higher compression on the 800s than on the XCs. Polaris has since gotten lazy and just subs the XC head to everything now if you buy a new one.

Regardless, with a stock pipe, even the higher compression head was ok if you had 91 octane fuel.

But putting SLP twins on changes things. Heck, I've seen more than one 800 with SLP single that had DET problems under 3000 feet.

IMO octane boost is a waste of money.. it will increase your octane level very little. it will boost 92 to 92.4 if your lucky.
