SLP pipe worth it on a 755?

Got my 755 rebuilt this year with 32mm crank and Indy Dans TM1, was wondering if the SLP pipe was worth the money or can that money be better spent elsewhere? I already have "The Thing" full ceramic can, does SLP just sell the pipe?

I'm not an expert on this but,, I know there is SLP can which fits to Stock pipe,, and SLP can which fits to SLP Pipe. So your can may only be for Stock pipe.

I have read quite a few times from the experts,,, SLP pipe & Flash leans out motor... It's said it will Kick As_ for awhile,, but with risk of frying motor... Some have success though.

Riding style may come into play on this.

Trail: WOT for 5 seconds at a time...
Mountain: WOT for 1 min. at a time...

One is harder on motor obviously...

its more expensive, but i would get the dynoport pipe and y-pipe. i have the slp pipe on both my 900s and i really love the power. but as stated its because the ecu reflash leans it out, and you run about 7700 rpm. you will also probably have cracking issues with the slp stuff. the dynoport setup keeps your rpms low, but still increases power through the entire rpm.
unless of course you would like to buy one of my used slp pipes for 500 bucks, and then i will go buy the dynoport:face-icon-small-hap

I have had no issues with the slp set up and have over 9,000 miles on the motor. I just had the crank rebuilt and hope to get another 9,000 miles.I also have a extra slp pipe like new. yes the can with crack but mine has been welded and has never crack .

Almost every motor with a broken crank has an SLP pipe. SLP pipe loses low end and midrange power over stock. Don't waste your money, Just get a lighter Can and put on it. If you absolutely have to have a pipe get a dynoport.

OMG..this is no way near true..nice try zane..the PIPE has absolutely nothing to do with this happeneing, its 99.99% belt, motor mount issue...:boxing:

i have SLP pipes on 2 05 900s, 1 06 900, 1 06 700, one of the best mods ive done, power is NOTICABLY better and never an issue with lean spots, rpms are 7900 and torque is unreal.

if you get a used pipe, i would jump all over it, i wouldnt buy new just cause the price is so $$...

and FYI, the 06 700 and the 06 900 use the SAME SLP pipe ;)

I am going to make you rethink how much better it is when you run your sled next to mine with a CPI pipe and get stomped by it...lol

i think its a combination of both the pipe and motor mounts/clutch. if the clutch is off balance or motor mounts bad, the faster you spin that 12 pound clutch out on the end of your crank, the better the chance comes from breaking the crank. slp pipe/reflash or not, keep your clutch balanced, dont explode belts, and keep your motor mounts good, and for the most part you should never have a problem with these 900s. just my .02
other than not being able to keep that grin off your face.

755 pipe is different part number than 900 pipe. Dynoport tested SLP 900 pipes and the all lost HP.

SLP does not post dynochart for 755 but they do for the 900. note the loss of power when compared to stock from about 6600 to 7200 RPM. Note this is the RPM you ride in 90% of the time.

Both CPI and DYnoport pipes produce 10 HP increase over the entire RPM range. SLP exceeds the HP only at RPM's that are faster than the engine was designed to spin, otherwise SLP LOSES HP when compared to a stock pipe!!!!!

Money well spent.

Zane, it's well established that your are an SLP hater, but cut the crap. Friend, if you can get an SLP pipe to fit for 500 bucks, I wouldn't hesitate. The 755 has great low end power like the 866 but at the top end, the heavy weight of that machine warrants more power. Here is what I would do. Call SLP and ask them if you can make that pipe fit and if they can flash your ECU for that combination (755 engine/ 866 pipe). Then spend extra money, on top of your five hundred bucks, for clutch balancing with new weights, new clutch springs (primary and secondary), and the recommended helix to accompany your chosen weight and spring setup. SLP can help you with all that (spend a couple hondo and I'm sure they'll fash it for free). I think the key to not cracking the pipe and can is to not tie rhem down overly tight. A tight connection at the Y pipe and a little flexy on the can end has worked well for me. An ounce of non synthetic oil per gallon of gas removes any leanout concerns and is a good pratice whether you decide to do this upgrade or not. Get the engine running great first and worry about how to tame the new beast later. Ask any farmer, an underpowered tractor is a real drag. Let us know how it works out.

Yup, I hate them. Went through 5 SLP can's in 600 miles. ( I have photos and posted them on here before) They also have a noticable negative effect on the low end when compared to a CPI or any other can. They are nice and quiet though, so I wish they would work.

Oh forgot to mention I have a sled with an slp can now and guess what, it's broken too.

I also have a 900 with a complete SLP pipe and can and here is a big suprise, the can is cracked on that one too.

I do have something positive to say though. I saw Miko700's SLP can last Saturday and they have changed the design and added two braces to the top to prevent cracking. So, on that note, I would not be afraid to buy a new SLP can directly from SLP so you do not get new old stock that does not have the new bracing. That is if quiet is more important than maximizing low end.

So, just to make it clear. The biggest reason I do not like SLP pipes on the 866 or 755 is that they are prone to failure and have a nearly 100% failure rate.

cracked cans

cracked y-pipe's

cracked brackets on the pipe themselves.

Even guidoxpress who loves them has experienced all or almost all of these problems with his SLP pipes.

I will gladly sell you mine and give you my ECU that is flashed in exchange for a non flashes ECU. Pipe has about 5 rides and has cracked Can that needs to be welded.

yes they show a different part number, but it IS inpfact the same pipe. why? who knows, but its the same setup..

not true..i have had a FEW cracked SLP pipes, sure, but its cause i run double springs on EVERY tab...its bound to happen.

SLP products flat out perform...

this a worthless battle...lets talk about which oil is better?? what should i run, avgas or race fuel?? sound famililar?

IMO..if you get an SLP setup cheap...get the pipe, SLP is the ONLY one who can flash the 06 700 ECU for that pipe...they have done it for free for me before.

i dont care for the SLP cans, but the pipe gets my full support all the way!!

good luck...

Thanks for your input guys, i havent gotten a chance to ride it yet due to a broken foot. Im so stoked to see what she runs like after the total rebuild. A new pipe is the next thing and I think im goin with the Dyno Port Y-pipe, and pipe. My can has been great "The Thing" from Sled Shed in Revelstoke, 2000mi and it still is in excellent shape.
