SLP pipe....breaking exhaust spring.

Where the pipe attaches to the silencer, the spring thats closer to the engine. I've broke it twice now. The first time I wasnt sure what the deal was, spring was gone and no where to be found in the engine compartment. Replaced it with a new spring this week while adjusting TPS. Rode Friday and this morning the spring was missing again, but this time I found it behind the jackshaft and the end was broke of the spring.

Anyone else have springs breaking? I have 19 hours and 250 miles on. Eric

You try smearing a bead of high temp silicone along the spring? Sometimes helps dampen the harmonics.

Not to hi jack but what are you using to test/set TPS if you don't mind?

Going to do the silicone trick tomorrow. Never had a new spring break so quick.

Lots of info on the TPS in the "low idle" thread, start reading about post #40.

Basically all you have to do is hook up a 12volt supply to the ECM POWER connector which is above the clutch cover near the shock tower. Then with an accurate volt meter you back probe the TPS connector which is in the bag above the PTO spark plug. Eric

No doubt that the Axys is tight when doing the pipe and can. The pipe has to sit in there just right. I was surprised that it came up as high as it did as I expected it to sit lower. Once it lines up right the springs are easier (but still tough in spots) to put in.

I really dig the pipe/can combo. Good sound w/o being obnoxious and great throttle response. Looks good too.

Guy here broke a spring quick too.
I know on my SLP Doo pipe, the instructions are pretty specific about how much tension to put on them, measure the gap between coils. Maybe dealers aren't doing this when installing them? It is a pain to do it, you have to bend the spring tangs to get the right tension.

Very good point. I remember reading that, but never checked it. I know I'm not over stretching the spring, but its possible it not being stretched enough. I will check those measurements tomorrow. THANKS! Eric
