slp or stock

i have been considering switching from my twin ceramic coated pipes and can to stock with an after market can my old man already has to loud for him but i was wondering if this is a good idea considering slp claims 18 hp gain and i like the power and i would also like to know what they are worth i know there 945$ new

The set of slp twins I had and sold I think I got 250 for. They were not ceramic coated so you might get 350 out of yours. I am running stock pipes on both of my 900s with slp silencers. The 900 motor really likes the stock pipe and with a little clutching runs GREAT with the stock pipe.

I think the question is can you tune and clutch with the stock pipes, a buddie had the slp single on his 05 900 and it ripped.

If you tune it right I wouldn't worry they are tuff. My buddies had 5k on it with the single and nos.

arent twins are alittle harder on motors tho there alot harder to tune out the lean spots actually the question i should be asking is how much better are my twins and what are the benefits of have them or the benefits of having a stock pipe

Because the twins are harder to tune is why they might be harder on the motor, the internals of the motor will take a lot more power than what you can get with twins. But if your tuning is off it could ruin it or start to cause a problem.

The singles are better to some because your not tuning all the time and makes it more reliable. I would say the twins have more potential for peak hp, just a matter of being able to get it. If your confident with your tuning ability try the twins and if your not happy go with the single. If its to loud try a tunnel dump.(not sure how it would work on a 1m)

i already have twins on it right now and have run it for 2 years with no problems but a broken chain which is not related to the pipes so im fairly certain that it is tuned right. it has probably close to 2000 miles on it and im thinking about doing a top end just as preventative would a stock pipe be better for break in because of the twins potential lean spots?

Sorry I miss read the first post. If there is a possible lean spot the stock pipe might be better but I would think if it runs fine and you know how to rebuild and go through the motions it shouldn't matter. Do you have egts or do you tune by reading the plugs. If you run it on the lean side the heat to the pistons is the only reason for a rebuild. Other than that I would just run it, I not a fan of rebuilding just to rebuild, if one thing isn't just right it could make a good sled go bad.

The way to get an accurate reading is to make the pull and kill the sled asap or after it idles down it can(maybe not by much just what I've been told?) throw it off. If this is how you do it then it should be fine.

its usually to the top and then i kill it pull the plugs and check so it should be fairly accurate and the only reason i was thinking about rebuilding is because my old man and brother both had their sleds rebuilt this year and the cylinders were all scared and needed replating and i dont want to foot the bill for that so i thought if i could get it befor the piston ruins the jugs then it would be cheaper

That would be from a lean, cold, or 4 corner seize in most cases. The only time I've seen it happen is from to much heat or debri. Look into the cylinders from the y-pipe and see if there is any abnormal where. they don't typically just where out and the old pistons would not have any reason to wear any different than the new ones unless something falls apart. But its up to you, you know the sled the best, do you have a good dealer to go to. Just make sure you check all the specs and keep it clean if you do.

The pistons on mine look like new! Not a mark at all. The twins build the BHP at a higher RPM, but same amount of torque as a single! A good running single either CPI or SLP, a Y pipe and airbox mods will make a nice all around machine.
