SLP head

I have a second hand slp head that i started to put on my 04 800 vertical escape today. I ran in to a problem with the inlet under the head. The stock nipple has 1"npt threads and the slp head has 3/8"npt threads.
Went to a plumper and got some parts to fix it. But its not a permanent fix. Should i machine the head to 1"npt or get a shorter adapter?
And there is no threads in the head for the rear bolt on the termostate housing. Used a thinner bolt and a thick washer under the head.
Am i missing some parts for this?
The head part number is 12-513.

Got it running now, blew a o-ring on the first run. So the hole thing had to go off one extra time... Hard to tell if it runs any better. My egt`s are down 100f on each cyl. Got it up to 1150. Before it was 1275 on hard pulls in the low country. Lower when in the mountains.
I guess it needs to be jetted down.

Took a pic of the "plumbing" in to the head.
Does anyone have pics of how its supposed to be done?
Is it normal that egt`s drop down?

800 Heads

I have a 2004 stick 800 with DET. It has a much larger hose inlet than the 2003 version with a stock bypass from the water pump.

I refitted a 2003 with the SLP head with DET fitting (2004) and I was able to just bush down the inlet to fit the old by-pass hose.

I ended up scoring some hoses on a box of goodies and I was able to reconfigure my 2003 to the same hose routing as my 2004 and I just put a plug in the water pump outlet where the by-pass hose used to go.

I haven't gone down in inlet size as you are describing.

How much does SLP charge for a bare skull which would have the DET fitting, larger inlet hole for coolant and the screw hole on the back for the little shim. Then you wouldn't need to worry about starving the top for flow. If you don't use DET then you could certainly have it machines to accept the larger nipple which I personally think would be better.

The det sensor is installed. You can see the bolt for it in the picture. Found a small hole under the head, made a small alu plate thats boltet to the head and used a stud for the thermostate housing.
