sled vs street bike for hp build?

Would you rather scalp a sled for a build, or street bike?

Sled seems the cheaper more practical route, especially if the sled has a good skid.

A lot will depend on how you plan on driving the jack shaft from the motor, the bike engine has a clutch and a transmission that will work right off the hop, how would you drive the jack shaft wit the sled motor? Their clutches are pretty big and in a bad spot for the riders feet if the motor is placed conventionally.

Personally I have always thought a 600 etec motor would be a nice fit.

Know the sled route would be wider. Was thinking raising up the motor, and hopefully narrowing it up?

Right now I'm just dumb enough I'd like to try a build, but would like to hear from those who have tried already.

Narrow a sled motor?? not sure how your gonna do that. But could be possible to run a chain back and mount the clutch on the inside instead ON the motor making it wider. Many options you could go with.

Thanks for that link.^^^^

Learned enough from that, to tell me I'd be better off trying a street bike build with tools I have on hand.

I'm in the middle of a R1 RAPTOR project and have owned and sold another R1 Raptor. I think these engines would be very feasible. They are reasonably light and narrow. In a raptor your pegs stay in the same place. It may be something to look at in the future. If I was to do one it would probably be a 2001-2003 because of less electronics even though they were less hp. they had higher TQ! They would be easy to graft into a bigger chassis like a cr500 or big 4 stroke chassis.
