Sled Rescue Rope Recommendations

I have been using mule tape and nylon webbing. I got a spool of the nylon webbing 10 years ago. very small and compact. a sling and a small pully go along ways in retreiving sleds also.

alot of times you can get mule tape thru stores that sell rigging and chains.

There is plenty of different kinds of rope and straps that are strong enough. The problem is going around the spindles. They always seem to cut everything. I've seen people tie to ski loops but your just asking for broken loops.

One of the things that have killed tow ropes in the past is when the skis run over the rope during the tow job. The Carbides seem to destroy the average rope.
Well, it take a good pair of Tins snips to cut the Fantom Rope and has resisted carbides very well.

This is a very good point! Webbing seems to get frayed if you allow it to get under the skis!

It carries a 5,500 lb burst rating and has never failed at starter rope over the past 8 years on the thousands of sleds using it.

Reminds me coldstarting the 1150s.... :fear: stock starter ropes would snap snap snap! LOL This stuff, nope! :whoo:

They all come with loops on each end making it easy to loop on itself over a bumper then again on each spindle.

This with 2 carabeeners to make for easy on off and no knot tying is a fabulous combination! :high5: We've done a soft loop over the rear bumper of the towing sled and then carabeening (is that a word? LOL) the other 2 ends/loops to the skis. This has made for some very smooth tow outs! :clap2:

I'm. anothet one for mule tape. Lightweight and compact. We have done stuff with mule tape I can't beleive. Get all we need from a buddy who is a lineman. He gets it out of the garbage for us.

I've always just carried 2 ratchet straps (long ones)... they roll up nice and fit multiple uses (i.e. trail repairs!) I go over one a-arm on the outside of the center support bar, under the bellypan, then up and over the other arm and back to the pull sled... no sharp edges, stay away from the skis...wont bend anything...

hey,

I've always just stolen spare mule tape off the job, but being an estimator now I'm not out there anymore. Where do you guys get it from? Looking online all I see are HUGE quantities & a 4.99 bundle with no pull rating.

If you click the & looke closely at the link Newmy1 posted it appears to say 2,500#.

It sure did say 2500# in the picture, should be good for a whole 250# work load, NOT very strong. Like pulling a fat kid out of a sand box with your grandmas yarn....
