sled recovery

Hey guys we had an unfortunate event today and had a sled fly off the trail right by big white mountain resort in whitefish montana. I'm curious if anyone has the contact information for a helicopter service or something along those lines. Open to any suggestions.

How far off the trail is it? would it be possible to winch it back up to the trail? you can do a lot with a come-a-long and some ropes. Heli service last time I check was stupid $$$$ and that was 8yrs ago. I'm sure its only went up since then. Eric

Rope is cheap

get some rope or line man tape and a come along.
Last year we used 300 for of rope and pullys to pull a buddies sled up a steep hill after his clutch broke off his crank. A lot cheaper than a heli!

Come alongs
or
Bock & tackles
or
Chain hoist
or
Ratchet straps
However w/ratchet straps you will be regrouping about every 6 inches, not cool for 100' retrieval.

Is it possible to use some pulleys strategically placed on trees & then use 1 or 2 sleds as the power to pull dead sled up to trail?

Most logging companies and Arborist would have a Tirfor that they would probably lend or rent you-or a Rent-all place. These things are amazing and no effort. http://www.tractel.com/us/series.php?id_serie=47and you don't have to stop and reset if your cable is long enough

Those look like nice units. Grainger has the 508 model for $1600 and a 30' cable with 2000# rating. Definitely would want to rent/borrow if possible, like u suggested.

The rope puller from Home Depot (ace hardware, etc) is $100 with a 100' rope and 1500# rating.

Chainsaw winch.

Even if you had to buy one. Still about 100x cheaper than a airlift. I have seen guys yard a whole elk out of a canyon with them , Since you only have about 4 wraps on the spool the length of the rope is irrelevant, just buy good 5/8 rope, preferably Static (limited stretch) Good luck.

Last year I bent my rails at the bottom of a 1,500ft climb the track ratcheted so bad it wouldn't climb out. Used a snatch block a spool of mule tape and a rhino with tracks and it came right out. Now I never leave without a spool of mule tape and a snatch block in the trailer again.
