Sled insurance cost

Hey guys. I got a new sled and decided its not a bad idea to put insurance on it.
I got a few quotes and for during the riding season the best price I got was $42 a month. I was curious if anyone else likes to keep insurance on their sled then change the policy over to "storage" for the off season. $42 is not bad but I was hoping someone had advice on how to get it a little cheaper.

Thanks

With American family I pay 48 for a 17 AXYS so that seems close. I keep all my sleds insured year round just in case. It's not that much for a price of mind

Sounds high to me. On my 2010 m8 with 300k liab and $500 deduct It costs $160/yr. when new it was like $220/yr, something like that and may have had a lower deduct.

I keep full insurance on my two new sleds during the riding season. When the season is over, I get a refund from my premium for keeping them stored. I'm not going to get into an accident with the sleds waiting for the next winter season. Everything I need insured is thru PEMCO except for the snowmobiles. PEMCO does not cover snowmobiles so I have a "rider" thru Progressive. Thanks for the reminder. Season's over and I need to call them to get the insurance changed back.

My only comment is...
Have an agent that will go to bat for you.
Some companies are notorious for wanting to "fix" things as cheaply as possible.
Cough cough progressive cough.

I just ran into a progressive fix on a buddies sled, it reminded me why I don't have insurance. worst "repair" ive ever seen

State farm wanted to charge me $600 a year for my 17 pro, with a $250 deductible.

No monthly payment that you can cancel in the summer. $600 a year, take it or leave it.

state farm had the best rates for me over the last 8 years. i do have other policies with them currently though. for my 2017 axys i pay about $500/yr with a $100 deductible. the other option was $330 for a $500 deductible. my older sleds were $150-200/yr for a $100 deductible.

Here is a thought on deductibles using a real example -
plan a - $500 premium/ $100 deduct
plan b - $330 premium/$500 deduct

This $170 more in premium for $400 more in coverage.

Unless you have a claim which exceeds your deductible every 2.4 years, it might be better to choose a higher deduct.

$255 a year, full coverage, $500 deductible, State Farm, they only insure by the year. I'm more worried about the sled getting stolen than anything, something to consider if you're thinking of only insuring during season. Since a snowmobile claim with my insurance is considered at fault unless it was stolen the only other time I'd use it was if it was totaled.

I have my home, cars, toys all insured through them, if you are only insuring one thing I'm sure the premium would be double if not triple.

With a user name like your's I'd get the lowest dedectible possible;)

A fellow that I know had an older sled stored outside at cabin and a neighbor was doing some spring cleaning. The neighbor started a fire that got away from him. No, insurance = no sled.

Best idea I have read. Ill just light it on fire in the middle of a busy intersection and go home.

It's all fun and games until the insurance company does a full investigation on the fire. They'd pull police reports, interview the fireman, and check traffic cams which would show you sneaking away with a pack of matches. You'd be out in 10 yrs. LOL

I go through Progressive, 29yr old male, 1 comp. ~$12k claim in past 5 years.

pay $660/yr for 16 axys pro full coverage w/ $250 deduct. on comp and collision.

I don't actually pay $660 though as I drop my collision coverage from May-November while the sled is in storage. My monthly payments go from $55 in the winter to about $10 in the summer

State Farm has had best rates for me. My 14 Cat is $215/yr for 100/300/100 coverage and $500 deductible. My 16 Axys is $270/yr

insurance

I pay $117 a year on a 2013 600 Pro with FOREMOST Insurance with a $500 deductible.. Some of these quotes seem high to me.

Not to sound like a dick, but I have a LOT of insurance through state farm (multiple $$ rental properties etc). I've been with them for 15+ years. Only one at fault claim which was (strangely enough) taking out the front diff in my truck with a rock that was submerged in the snow.

Those ***** still want to charge me $600 a year to insure my sled :face-icon-small-sad.
