Sled Fire

Any body ever have to make a claim on a sled that caught fire while in the garage? Sounds crazy I know but apparently it can happen

Might be able to claim on homeowners. Whichever has a better deductible.

I claimed a canoe on homeowners once when I ran it into a sweeper and folded that thing.

Just a thought, one may cover better:noidea:

I'll try and get some pics up, mostly melted plastics and wiring could be fubar. had one of my Nytro's on it's side with the steering post on a jack stand extended all the way up to do some maintenence. After a few minutes smelled like gas so buddy andI tipped the sled back up, track side down and must have scraped metal and sparked cuz next thing I know there's a fireball engulfing the entire engine compartment and burning on the floor (may have been some oil there, it's where I park the sleds after every trip) there was definately a film of oil on the front and bottom of the engine, probably from pre-roll-over valve Buddy sees the fire ball and jumps into try and tear plastics off to get to the fire but doesn't realize I'm half of the fireball. Carhartt insulated bibs on fire from the waist down (by the way they worked great) I jump over the sled and hit the ground to put myself out and look over to see fireball is bigger and think hhhhmmm, theres a full tank of fuel in that sled as well as the other one in front of it, this probably isn't going to end well. hit the garage door button grabbed the rear bumper and drug it out to the middle of the driveway to watch it burn. As soon as we go the covers off we were able to put the fire out real quick, daaaaang that foams burns nasty toxic fumes for sure. So long story short, plastics are pretty toast on the clutch side, tank looks ok, wiring looks like a melted mess on the clutch side. couple sensors look pretty charred, was thinkin I was gonnna do a blacked out look now that I have a good start hehe. I may have acted too quickly and put the fire out too soon. May have been easier to let her burn to the ground and start over. Sled is fully insured. Started out as an A-arm swap now it'll be a little more

If your sled has a policy they will most likely have that cover it primarily, but being double covered never hurt anyone.

This reminds me of many years ago. I was in town picking up some stuff from sams. They had a whole pallet of fire extinguishers and I thought I'd better buy one for the shop since I didn't have one.
The very next day we were working on a sled and it somehow caught fire, maybe it was the beer.:face-icon-small-sho
The guys were trying to put out the gas fire with the garden hose, we know how that works. :face-icon-small-con
That fire extinguisher saved us from burning the whole shop down, only had to replace a few wires and a fuel line.:face-icon-small-coo
I better get it replaced.:focus:

HA HA I was thinking the same thing. My buddy grabbed the fire extinguisher while I drug the burning sled out of the garage I just had nightmares of the tank melting and taking the bad situation to a whole new level. Oh I didn't mention there was another 60 gallons of fuel in there with us as well

Total bummer Al but at least the gas tank or other 60 gallons didn't go off on you.

Glad you are OK. Sleds can be fixed and are replaceable.
So when are they getting fixed?
BTW this is why it snowed :D

Been through many fire claims in the auto business. I know you say "must of scraped some metal". But when they call you for your story be sure and stick to that. They will likely want you to "speculate" your cause. Reason for this is if you say I dont know maybe it was the .........what ever part. That part will not be covered and is generally the expensive one. So stick to the truth and dont let them lead you into something different.

They will cover the damage but will say the caused was a failed part and they dont cover faulty/needing repaired parts.

So called my agent and hopefully they'll be able to check it out this week. So definately down one sled for the weekend. Good thing this was my wife's backup sled that went down.

Maybe with all these screamin' deals on the Yammi's in the futile anticipation of nothing but BNG for the Yamaha mountain sleds time to pull the trigger and do a little shoppin before the weekend
