Sled decks

Hey was wondering if any of you guys have experience with the Custom deck by bohnenkamps or a Marathon deck and which one is better, likes or dislikes. It seems like a lot of money for these decks is there a reason they are so proud? Looking for one with slide outs for a long bed either powder coated or polished with a 12' ramp for a lifted '08 chev 2500. Thinking about ordering one to pick up at the Puyallup snow show in october. Have not seen any of these decks locally, no dealers carry them.

have you looked into silver lake mfg? i picked mine up from joe at midwestbeddecks.com
i know there are dealers for silver lake out west though. these decks are nice and cheaper. i really like mine

taken from joe's site-

Bobtail Sled Deck

(shown with optional retractable sides)

The Bobtail Sled Deck is the most universal deck. With its square platform, it allows additional trailers to be towed (clearance issues may exist for short-box trucks with some v-nose enclosed trailers). The retractable side option (only available on the Bobtail) allows you the ability to expand out to carry 2 sleds or ATVs or contract in when you are only carrying one or are empty. This is a great option if your garage space is tight and you want to keep the sled deck in all winter long!
• 8'2" wide, 8'2" long
• Sides slide out to transport
• Sides slide back in when empty or just have one to haul
• Removable pin with machined stop make it easy to switch out
• Can easily be used for Quads as well
• Marker lights standard

Another one for Silver Lake Manufacturing!!!!

These are the best decks we have used with awesome quality. We used them all last year and after a hard long season of use they still look new. The welds are great, they are wired with side marker lights and the design allows for lots of storage under the deck. Give Mike a shout, excellent prices and you wont find a better guy.

I love my Marathon Deck

I just got a new Marathon deck and love it. They're a little more money but man is it worth it. The quality is top notch, the sides slide in and out, the plywood is sealed so water doesn't drip all over your stuff in the bed.
It has an expandable ramp, comes with both SuperClamps and SuperGlides installed, LED lighting, they are also adjustable so you can run them in a shortbox or longbox truck. You can load your 4 wheelers up the side.
You can also get a really cool extension that will add 18" and it folds up when you don't need it. They also make a really cool ramp about 12" wide you can combine with the std ramp for loading wider 4 wheelers or UTV's.
(We loaded a Polaris Ranger with tracks on it, worked great!)
Look for a full feature on these decks in Mountain Mod Mania 6 coming out next month.
If anyone's interested in my old Sky Hi deck, I'm selling it. Its located in Crowsnest Pass, AB at Arctic Edge. Comes with 4 SuperClamps, all aluminum with a beavertail. PM me if your interested!

x2 on Marathon. I've had mine for 2 yrs. My only complaint is I have cracked (or ripped) one of the welds holding the headache rack on. I'm sure it's partly my fault for coming in a little hot but it's not a tough as it looks (2" tubing and all). Thier telescopic ramp cannot be beat...perfect. I use mine about 10x a yr and it's like new.

:D:beer;i have a custom deck built by bohnenkamps. i was very pleased with it. well built. Some of the great things about it are how easy the expandable sides are. the superclamps, the telescoping ramps and the perimeter lighting and rear l.e.d. the ski glides on the ramp are nice too. Im polishin it up again and taking it on season 2!

by the sounds of it go with either silver lake, marathon, custom deck by bohenkamp or toy-up because of price. It really doesnt which one any sled deck is better than not having one. I will never go back to a 2place

How bad is shipping on these decks? I can tell you right now there is no way I'll be making it to a dealer to pick one up anytime soon.

Someone have a website for bohenkamp?

I just picked up a Custom deck by Bohnenkamps at the Helena Thunderstruck premier (super cool seeing a sled movie on the bigscreen) and I can tell you these things are heck for stout and very well put together. The sliding parts all have thick umhww plastic inserts so everthing slides nice and easy, the 10 foot ramp looks easy to load on. I put it on my 08 Chevy shortbox and the fit is great. I will take pictures when I get everything squared away. Jay at Custom Deck is great to deal with.

One more thing to look at when you are shopping: I believe each superclamp sells for around $150 - $200 dollars so included in the price is $3 - $4 hundred dollars in clamps plus whatever the super glide stuff costs. Expensive to be sure but it may drive up the price of a lower cost alternative.

do they still make sled beds that the whole unit retracts so you dont have to mess around with a ramp and the approach angle isnt so steep?

heres some pics of my dad full-lotus deck we love it we can still use the slip tank in it and acess the tools in the dry box with out crawling into the box of the truck. the deck is also telescopic so it can be used for one sled in the middle or two on the sides.

I saw one of those back in march. Thought it would be easier to go just with a boom instead of having to mess with the hydraulics and all the extra weight.

I've done it before and it's not a problem with the decks that slide in on the sides. I load the sleds, move the sides in as much as possible and then use a 2' extension hitch to move the travel trailer back. My travel trailer is only 21' long so it's not too big. I use a 2002 Chevy Short box crew cab. I don't have any pictures on this computer...

We are getting ready to take pre orders for all the snow shows this winter. We will be coming to Boise, Puyallup, Salt Lake and Spokane. If anyone is looking to pick up a deck and wants to get free shipping this will be your best option for the year.

Will, like we talked earlier last week when you are ready to order just let me know and we will get you a spot on the trailer.

Tim, thanks I'm glad you liked your deck. Have a great season.

Like Tim said the super clamps are retailing this season for $189.95 each and the super glides are $109.95 a box. That is nearly $500 in accessories. So our prices are not that bad. Considering we had a 30% jump in aluminum costs since this time last season.

Scott thanks for delivering that deck to Tim.

Yes we pull trailers behind these decks all the time. Like Scott said it all depends on the trailer, the pick up and your hitch set up. they make hitch extention that are used for overhead campers that work the same way. On short box pick ups you will probably need to use an extention to get you to the end of the deck. On long box pick ups it all depends on the trailer tounge length. I pull a 26' artic fox or a 28' Mirage enclosed behind mine long box dodge with no problems.
