Sled Deck Tie Down

Whats everyone using to secure there decks to there trucks. Was looking at some Camper Hold downs that go to the frame but there all on the outside of the bed. Pics are worth 1000 words btw.

Is the box on your truck fastned from the top, or bottom. On the ford superduty the best way is to remove 4 of the bolts that hold the box to the frame, weld tabs on to your deck to line up with holes, and re-bolt everything down. This is the best way, period. You can do the same on a truck that does not bolt down the box form the top, but you have to drill holes in the box, and use angle off the frame ( similiar to a 5th wheel install). I know the Gm's mount from the bottom, but not sure on your Dodge.

Camper bars work too, but the deck will still slide if you do any offroading, hit the ditch, etc. Some guys use turnbuckles and fasten on the inside of the truck box, but this will destroy your truck if you offroad, crash, etc. Been there, destroyed the box, cab, rear window, etc.

so you have your tie downs on the outside of the bed?

yes. i use the same chains and turnbuckles that i use with my camper. i just took my deck out yesterday (so i can tow my enclosed) so i cant take pics but ill look for some old pics and post when/if i find.

i use the same tiedowns for my deck that i use for my camper, it works well and the deck doesnt slide around.

I've got a F350, all I did was drill 2 holes through the box. Being sure you drill through the cross members of the box. Welded angle iron to the pickup frame, made a long eye bolt to go through all. This was all done about a foot back from the front of the box. Good 5/16 transport chain, welded to deck back far enough that you have a nice angle down and forward to the eye bolt. Suck it down good with a turn buckle. Never had any issues of deck moving side to side or backwards.

Has anybody been pulled over in Canada for using the factory tie downs? What Is the fine and what did they make you do?
