Have you ever considered making a flat bed sled deck? I'm considering removing the bed from the '99 Superduty and running it flat bed so that the truck, with sleds, will fit in the parking garage at my office.
I am sure I could. I am going to be modifying a flat bed for Johnny some time this fall. Of Course that is quite a bit different than fabing one from scratch.
So, What features would you like to see on a Sledbed? Would plywood sheeting be sufficient? How about the headache rack? Could the ramp double as the rack? What about size? 8 foot long x 7'10 wide enough? I am guessing your fifth wheel setup mounts to the frame right? so the bed would NOT be holding the trailer weight? what about the sides? would the sides that I build on a deck work?
build it just like a typical flat bed, except add that sledder touch in regard to a slight dove tail or whatever that would allow ease of sled loading and unloading, but we all still want the advantage of a bumper pull, or maybe just leave a large cut out where the bumper pull would be as most trucks bumper pull thingy is attached to the frame. the sides you use on the sled deck is fine
im guessign most folks do not want a sled deck because they are too high in elevation, and the others dont have a flat bed because they are not tailored toward sleds or toys, new market
Silver lake makes a sled bed, it's pretty cool, just really pricy! It looks like it has a built in gooseneck and rear hitch, the sides fold down to fit 2 sleds on it. I have looked at a few used flat beds, I was gonna buy one and modify it, add the fold down sides and someplace to store a ramp.
