Sled club PATHETIC!!

Not open for further replies.
Hi everyone l am new to this would like a little feed back on this, l am (or should l say was) a member of a snowmobile club in BC Canada and have a lot of sled friends in Alberta Canada, that sled here ( l should say did ride here)to make a long story short they told me that they herd over forems and word of mouth from other sledders that a person very high up in our club was and is bad mouthing one of our local buisneses telling sledders not to go there, the buiness is for sledders the have premium fuel for sleds breakfests and stuff they cater to sledders, they are very nice people! and are just starting out, what brought this all up was the high up in are clubasked this buisness to advertize in there sled flyers, being as they were just starting out they said they couldn't,(l just started a buisness here and l can't afford to addvertize all over either, because of that this fella is tring to cause this buisness probs if it was up to me l would throw him out of the club (personal isuses should not invole the club) l have lost a lot of "respect" for this club and so have a lot of other locals and Albertans ,who may l say keep the buinesess going in this town in the winter,l think if the club lets this keep up they are not much of a sled club and l would be a shammed to call my self a member.l would just like to know if me and many others are wrong to think like this or is that what high ranking club members should be allowed to do please give your info. because alot of people will not be joining or purchasing sled pass from the Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club in Sicamouse BC, would rather drive to Revelstoke than to suport this club when they treat local buinesses like that!!!

Thank you

I am a member of that club. I think I know which buisness you are talking about(it is a small town) Where is this badmouthing taking place. I haven't seen it or heard it. Who is this person you refer to as a "high up" whatever that means. They are just hard working volunteers!

I understand your discontent with this whole situation.I too sled Sicamous and have visited this establishment and have found them too be a very sled friendly business, not only selling dyed premium fuel but probaly the best sandwich in town. They will get my business as they have personality and have been extreamly helpful when ever I visit town, giving riding conditions and grooming reports and the main thing, being friendly and treating us out of towners like friends. I also would rather support the smaller momma, pappa businesses than the big chain like establishments as I am a one man operation myself.

After talking with them, they will be supporting the club in the future but for the mean time they have just bought this store and cannot afford to sponsor the club till next season even though they are feeling bullied to join. They are a very nice and helpful young couple who has taken on a huge debt to buy this place.

I too felt that a certain member of the club is using almost extorsion methods to get this particular business to support the club and being a groomer operator should concentraite on that and leave sponsor recrutement to the appropriate management staff.I know I would have a rough time supporting anyone that posted what was posted on the internet by this certain member.
I do believe they have let things get a little out of hand and hope that this public bashing has stopped.

There are a lot of other local businesses in town that are well established that I see are not on the sponsor list and some of these are major tourist attractions.I can think of at least a dozen establishments that benefit from sledders that are not on the sponsor list. Are they publicly bashing these businesses?I bet not.
I do not believe boycotting the town is the answer,as this is one of the premier riding locations in BC,and not going to help this particular business or any others expand and become a supporting member.

You calling the club pathetic is not right either,as they are doing a good job promoting sledding and have an excellent program for grooming and signage with some real nice warm up cabins on the hills with plans on building one out at Eagles Pass in the near future. They are also in a fight to keep all of North Queest open from Cariboo closure,so I would not use the word pathetic.

It is just this one member that feels he can bully I think just this one company, maybe because they are young, publicly to increase the club sponsorship no matter even if it puts this store out of business.

Of coarse this is just my opinion, but I will continue when ever in town,to get my fuel and lunch from this little establishment.

Cheers,
Dave

If this is true. it is an outrage for sure. seams like mafia techniques to me..
The club should be ashamed of these actions..

Well sorry for the spelling, l was up for approx 40 hrs with no sleep. and was tring to get this out for some friends in alberta.l tried to copy word for word as close to what she wrote. and yes some words might have been a bit harsh l just think that if stuff like this is happening and it is causing people from alberta not to want to come here because a member is trashing a local garage and getting away with it then l to believe it is wrong, stuff like this effects others that rely on the sledders comming here. And if my spelling is more of an issue than what is going on here then sorry for wasting your time and mine!

Sounds more like there is personal issue between the club "Higher Up" and the business owner. Not right for the bad mouthing to be taking place however. Not good to label the whole club as "Pathetic" because of the actions of one or two members. Every club has their Chit Disturbers.....doesn't mean the whole club is bad.

I have to agree with you on this, the Sicamous club is far from PATHETIC.
In my opinion they are doing a fabulous job, they have been able to keep North Queest open from cariboo closure and the cabins are well kept up grooming is good,at most part a very sled friendly community.
I also agree about their chit disturber,I was really hoping that would end but....

Dave
Sicamous still is and will always be one of my favorite sledding destinations

Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club

I live in this town and sled in this town. I have attended meetings of the snowmobile club in question in previous years. I agree with the original poster that the higher up person in question seems to have a vendetta for that one small business who didn't advertise and sponsor the club. Yes this is a good club in general but the club is only as good as the individuals within it and that includes its leaders. Perhaps they have made a bad choice in leadership. To single out one particular business and try and take away their livelyhood by encouraging local and out of town sledders take their business elsewhere is reprehensible. These are good people trying to make a living and a bad recommendation could break them. I would like to see an apology from the club, for the original post that was on the Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club website, that encouraged sledders to shop elsewhere. Perhaps the local newspaper would be the appropriate place for that apology.
I believe that everyone's opinion counts whether they use punctuation or not. The original poster had something to say that needed to be said by someone and I'm glad he brought it up. No need to belittle him for his grammer or suggest that he is juvenile for expressing his opinion as he saw fit. I'm sure you'll be counting my punctuation marks and I'm sure they are too many or not enough.
As for the small business in question...they make the best food and it is a regular lunch stop of mine. They also provide quality, friendly, and informative service with a smile. And I buy all my fuel there and will continue to do so and will continue to tell everyone I can about their awesome little service station.

What is the name of the business? Let everyone know so that when they are in town they can support them! Jesse.

Think it is Gas Plus

Yes,you are correct, used to be Sun Valley Gas.As stated before they have dyed premium and they make a great breakfast bun and their sandwiches are excellent.I had a BBQ beef sub every day on our last trip, now I have gone and made myself hungry.
On the wall by the door they have snow conditions and grooming reports, they are very sled friendly and as thay are working owners are very concerned on giving good service, you can't help but have a conversation while filling up,they treat you like old friends.

Thanks Dave, I will check them out. Is "Loco Lou's" part of their operation? A Loco Lou's flyer was left on all the vehicles windshields last weekend

I believe it is common courtesy that you support all businesses that support the snowmobile clubs in that area. If you go to any of the snowmobile websites (ie Revy, Varda etc) they all give you a list of sponsered businesses that donate to them. It is through these businesses that some of the revenue comes for the grooming and traihead programs. You should support the businesses that support your sport.

Boycott

The request to the public to boycott this particular business was made on SW. It was suggested that because they did not want to contribute to the club that all sledders should refrain from supporting the business. There was more to this story than was released at the time by this individual. It appears that the new owners were very new to the business and quite young and had invested virtually everything they had to take over the business. Sponsoring the club with a fairly significant sum of money was not in the budget so they declined. Subsequently they were hauled out into the public eye and blackballed. As a small business owner I could appreciate their dilema and chose specifically to support them as well as every other business in town that I could while I was there in Dec. including the local club by way of trail passes. It seems that the local club is strong and conducts itself very well other than one individual who I'm sure spoke outside the context of the club.
Cut these people a little slack. They need to get their feet on the ground. Seems like they will be kicking butt too as they were first rate in my opinion.

In the infamous words of Jack Nicholson, “YOU WANT THE TRUTH?? YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!”

As so often happens on forums, some of the facts presented are far from the truth and some readers don’t really want to know the truth, but would rather promote more controversy and in the process try to promote themselves or their business! I will try and keep this short but its gonna be tough!

1. This Gas Plus issue was brought up at a Club meeting back at the beginning of December, 2009, dealt with, and the Club has moved on to other items that involve running a Club.
2. Nearly 3 months after the initial post I made concerning a local gas station that did not advertise with the Club, SOMEONE still insists on causing problems, and it is not the Club/Directors or me! It is my opinion that it is someone who is in it for their own gain and it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out who!
3. A smear campaign has been launched locally to discredit certain Club members, myself included, in a vain attempt to make it look like the Club is responsible for a certain gas station from not succeeding , when in fact, that very smear campaign has done nothing but discredit the previous and present owner of the station.
4. Smokindave, if it is me you refer to in your post as the groomer person you too should get your facts right. I have nothing to do with the advertising end of the Club nor have I ever spoken to the new owners about advertising. I am only assuming this as you make mention of other posts made by “the person“, which I can only assume is me. If you remember correctly you sent me mail and apologized for any problems caused and that you should have removed the post earlier as it was “off topic”, plse get it straight, there are enough lies and innuendo going on right now. As well, because those particular posts were deleted from Sno West, the readers are again guessing as to what was said. Also, your comment that readers should not support anything I say on the Internet is totally out of line for a moderator, you should try to stay on topic and get the real facts straight before you condemn someone!
5. The only “chit” disturbers are those presently engaged in spreading lies to other sledders concerning what was said, and once again, locally, we know who they are. If it is wrong for a Club member to tell others to support a particular business because they support (advertise!!) with us, then guilty as charged. According to tranquillicer we publicly stoned them, wrong again, no such thing was ever done and, there was never any request to boycott them on this site, get it right. According to Guenefere something was posted on the Club website about this, wrong again, I do the website and nothing was ever mentioned on it regarding this incident. Does anyone see a pattern here?
6. The Club, but especially the President of it, has gone above and beyond what would be normal in an attempt to try and help out the gas station in question, and all to no avail. The owner would appear to not want any help that the Club has tried to give him, and refuses to even sit down and discuss it in a civil manner. The Club even offered a payment plan to the owner for the couple hundred bucks of advertising and that it didn’t have to be paid until next season! They were offered a prime spot for advertising on the reverse side of our trail tickets, this too was refused. Just how much is a Club supposed to do to “help out” a business, give them free advertising? I think not. And, if its free advertising they want, they’re getting a ton of it out of this website, and I have no doubt this is also a planned move on their part because by the looks of some of the posts they’ve drummed up some business!
7. The simple fact is, that there is a business up for sale, the previous owner does not want to get it back, and the current owner has not been able to drum up the business he thought he could. If the 4-5 Club members that used to go to his station to fill up don’t anymore and it makes his business fail, then I don’t think it would have made it anyways.
8. An apology? I was raised knowing full well that if you do wrong to someone, then an apology is in order. I haven’t done that nor has any of the other Club members that I know of. You “do gooders” and bleeding hearts will believe any boo hoo story that comes across you plate/internet and run with it before you get all the real facts, brain up. If an apology is in order its to the Club members that have been slandered.

The bottom line is this. You go to any gas station you want to, its that simple. If you go to a gas station that supports our club via their advertising with us, then thank you very much. To those causing all the problems and spreading the lies, get a life and perhaps use some of that energy to help the Club out rather than try to belittle it. ………………Sherm

l have to agree with Guenefere and other sledders l have talked to l think a appologie should be given to this buisness like my father told me when l was young, if you do anything that hurts someone or isn't right stand up and be a man and do the right thing and appoligize. as for sponsering l believe they do, sure they don't have the money this year to donate but l have been there times that they have opened earlier than normal for sledders that wanted to be up the hill by daylight, they have grooming reports for sledders and weather conditions ,lunchs and breakfast to go and my favorite! subs that beat any others l have eatten (except the wifes ,honest honey) and they are the only place in town that serves the gas . so l do believe that in there way they do sponser sledders so give them a break guys and a try you won't be dissapointed,

take care and safe riding
