Skidoo Freestyle Melts Plastic?...see Pics

Took the kids new Skidoo Freestyles on their maiden voyages today in McCall. My daughters pipe/can got so hot it melted the belly pan, side panels and BATTERY! The sled is an 06 300f with less than 100 miles on it. It is cherry. It is not able to go full throttle. After 1/2 to 3/4 throttle it starts to slow down. We had traveled less than 15 miles on a groomed trail when she pulled over and demanded something was wrong with her sled. God bless her.

What would cause this type of heat in the pipe?

if its been stored where mice are, check for a nest in the exhaust; although they should be smelling about done now:devil: nice sled; too bad about the plastic.

I'd say mice! I had to keep my stock truck exhaust around for warranty and I always duct taped the ends so mice couldn't get in and I don't have mice in my garage:)

Sorry bout the sled!

How about a gummed up carb. With the low miles and the issues you were having with not taking full throttle, I would guess something is plugging up a jet or 2. Running lean would cause increased exhaust temps.

Found the problem. Way too lean. It had a 140 Main Jet in it, factory calls for a 200. I'll pick up a new jet on tuesday and test to confirm. My son's sled has the 200 main jet and ran great.

I eliminated the plugged-pipe theory by swapping pipes with my son's 300 and had the same issue. Then I pulled the carb and checked the Jetting. The piston and cylindar appear to be OK from the limited view I had from the intake side and spark plug hole.
