GMan, I'd bet the XP's plates are narrower mainly because they're cheaper to make . We are too nice to them.
I've always chalked up many of the summit's design, clutching, setup misses to the mountain dev center in CO being so high, with deep and dry pow, for the XP summit's handling and clutching woes and great stock climbing ability. Works great in that specific environment, and those of us who have owned summits know that the sidehilling and handling issues are way less the deeper and dryer the pow. Clutching, too. Guess you can only test in so many locales. With that said, can't explain how they came up with the camo lite.
When the snow turns wetter and heavier, more mods are in order. The RMK's have always had a broader range of application, since they provide design input from more common, wider conditions. MHO.
