Skid plate - final word

I do know would have saved me from this and taking 8 hours to get my sled of the mountain.

The Skinz float plate fit on my 08 with no modifications, and offers way more protection than the Polaris part. I have a Polaris skid plate on the wifes 07 600, it's OK but not as good as the Skinz. I also put Skinz bumpers on both sleds, great products as far as I'm concerned!

they fit the 08's better the 09 and newer they cut some off to make it closer but it is not even close. Its a joke. gave them a chance to make it right they attempted and it still needed more modifying so I don't have it. I think you would be better off getting some plastic to protect the bulkhead there is not much area to hit the belly pan so no need to protect it

I to bought the skinz float plate but ended up not using it. I couldnt get it to fit the way i wanted, i have a treedog bumper on mine and would have had to do a bunch of modifying to get it to fit. went with the polaris oem plate, some kind of plate is better than none at all , i have a black skinz plate for a 08 4sale if anybody is interested

Apparently you didn't have the front radiator Trenchmaster in your 08? If you did then you just negated a good portion of your cooling system with the skid plate. How much is Skinz paying ya to rep their products? I could think of a few better spots to spend an additional $50 in my pocket like say clutch springs:)

Just posting up my experiences with Skinz products, I also have one of thier seat covers and some soft hand gaurds, all good products. Raw RMK's don't have radiators up front, you have something against Skinz?

Just the price and the fitment.....Guys that choose to go with the OEM have usually made a careful choice to go that route too based on experience.... So who's right? Nobody....like others have said...anything is better than nothing but be careful about making comparative statements :)

Front cooler was moved to the rear on 08 155. There is nothing but a void behind the lower intake vent.

I wouldnt have any of my sleds on the snow without a skidplate. I have slammed things so hard in early powder that it hurts! Gouges to skidplates..the skidplate any of them allow the sled to slide off rocks and other stuff where metal will bite the rock and hold on.

I have both types(OEM/Skinz) both work. As far as floatation..why knows.
Personally they should be standard equipment on any mountain Sled right from the OEM.

Good advice. How hard is it to install the OEM skidplate? Do you have to remove engine parts to bolt it on up front? I belive the rear is just riveted - the front too, perhaps?

I have the new CoBe bumper, I have that partial skid plate built it. It runs down and terminates just past the front bulkhead. That still leaves the rear exposed.
Any ideas on how to get a plate installed with that already there? It seems to me if I were to modify it for just the rear, it would become a big snow scoop, but bringing it all the way to the front, the existing gets in the way. Any ideas?

A couple rivets on the underside and bolts up front. It is all done from the bottom side...just tip it up on the side and knock it out in a few minutes. Doesn't get much easier.

Thanks for the info. I think I will get one just to be safe, as you all have suggested.
