Ski Scratchers dont do anything.

They suck. My trail temps still went up to 150... So i guess i need some regular scratchers. Though my off trail temps were around 130.. Im thinking thats still a bit high... What could cause this?

Have you removed your front radiator? If you haven't I would look into doing that.
If you have, are you positive you bled the system really good? If there is air still in the system you will run hot.

Temp wise my sled runs about 115 to 125 off trail and anywhere from 130 to 145 on really hard stuff. You definitely need to get some regular scratchers, from what I have seen the ski scratchers don't throw enough AT the coolers, instead more towards the panels. Regular scratchers will get the snow into the track and then thrown at the coolers.

130 off trail in powder is high but temps 150 and below are not going to do permanent damage. I have ran that high in the crappy snow in ND, if I get anywhere near 165 I stop and kick snow on the coolers.

Ski Scratchers are for lubricating your hyfax not cooling your sled. Rail mounted scratchers do a much better job of throwing snow at your coolers. I also found that when I ported my track the snow was thrown from the holes in the track to the cooler and my temps dropped 10 to 15 degrees.

Havent removed the radiator yet. But its in my plans. I just have to get all the necessary parts.

I only saw 150 going uphill on the hardpack. Coming back down later in the evening it was in the 130s-140s...

Thanks for the info. I didnt know that ski scratchers wouldnt do as good a job... Regular scratchers are deff on my todo list.

I run mine down on the 900 almost anytime I am on a trail without at least a couple inches of fresh powder on it. Ice scratchers are much cheeper and easier to replace than an engine, plus I just pulled my hyfax off after 5 years and it had almost zero wear.

I would recommend the wire type "regular" scratchers. Not much luck with the cable type as they flex to much. And as Z-Man said my Hi Fax have over 3200 on em and are getting replaced only now!!

i have 2 900's.
my 05 has a ported track, rail scratchers and rad delete. it runs 125 off trail and 135 on hard pack.
my 06 doesn't have a ported track, rail scratchers or rad delete. it runs the same off trail but runs 155 on hard pack. i am currently taking the front rad out and installing scratchers. ill let you know what difference it makes. they both have a lot of vents.

If you have the money I recommend buying a spare set of scratchers or replacement springs and keeping it in your trailer or truck when you ride too so if you break a spring you can swap in a new one and keep on riding.

The only reason I put on new hyfax is because I installed 6 inch rail extensions that required longer ones. I could probably ride another 5 years on my stock ones.:face-icon-small-win

My 2 cents

My 06 switchback runs 125 off trail and anywhere from 140 to 160 on hard pack, I haven't removed the front rad yet, but did install a set of scratchers. My advice would be to buy the scratchers that mount to the rails not the foot boards, they vibrate alot! Now my temps with the scratchers on the hard pack sit at around 124 constant. I was inpressed, specially pulling a sleigh for a long period of time.

Saw 160 today on hardpack before i shut her down to cool down. 120s in the powder. Definitely time for scratchers.

Better not to shut them down when they are hot. Get them into some powder and spin the track to throw snow on the cooler or stop and pack snow on top of the cooler and get the temp down.
