Ski Doo Reprogram Brain Box with Twin Pipes???

Has anyone heard of having to re-program a Brain Box from a Doo sled when adding Twin pipes??? I have twin Split Second pipes and that was what I was told... anyone with Cranshop Twins have to reprogram the brain box with twins??? I was told that since you need to run higher RPM with the twin pipe set ups that you need to have your brain box reprogrammed or else you won't be able to hit the 8300-8500 RPM range... this sounded odd to me since you should be able to turn more RPM with the same clutching due to the increased hp... not to mention you can change your primary to give you more RPM...

anyone heard of this? Is this dude on crack or is there something to it?

Which sled are you talking about? RT, Rev, XP???
He's probably talking about getting the timing advanced and moving out the rev limiter. Twin pipes on a doo like more timing.
You should probably call Split Second and find out exactly what your supposed to do.

Sorry... '03 800 HO Summit... (ZX chassis)

I did talk to Ralph at Split Second and he didn't have much info for me. He pretty much told me that he hasn't sold those pipes for a few years and didn't have set up info for them (weird, eh?)

Contact Tom Lawrence at BRP USA inc. (Racing Dept) or Yvon Petit if your in Canada and they can reprogram your MPEM for $85(US) or $100 (CDN) I just had mine done and it was back to me in about 7 days.

Here is Tom's contact information. I don't have Yvon's any more since I am in the U.S. but I am sure Tom could tell you what it is if needed.

I wouldn't have your MPEM repgrommed if you ride changing elevations.
You will lose the retard feature that kicks in when your too low for your setup or if the motor starts overheating.

Search around here and Dootalk and see if you can find some info on setup for those pipes. If you need more timing the easiest thing to do is have the dealer advance it for you but you need to find out what kind of timing people are running with those pipes.

It's probably to eliminate the rev-limiter. Quiz Big John on it, he's pretty savvy about those details or maybe another way to accomplish the same thing.

SnoSnob,

Who told you that? I talked to Tom at Ski Doo when I had mine done and he said a basic recurve (reprogram) ONLY effects the ignition timing curve. All of the safety and altitude compensation features (if DPM equipped) are controlled by other circuits within the MPEM and are not altered during a reprogram. So according to Ski Doo, if you have a Summit MPEM (which has this feature) and not an MXZ MPEM (which apparently does not) and you have it reprogrammed, you will not lose this safety feature.

I had mine recurved with the timing retarding at higher RPM's to acheive peak power at these higher rpms, Once again Big John can help.

Big John.
Not sure if he was referring to the Hot Trail he had done to his but he made it sound like any kind of "reprogram" will lose the retard feature.

interesting.....I just know what I was told by the Doo Racing Dept.. If BJ has access to a programmer than he probably knows what he is talking about??? Go with what he recommends. You would think if it is in the timing curve program then you would be able to keep it, edit it, or remove it when reprogramming. I guess it depends on what you are overwriting it with??? I basically had mine reloaded with the 2002 Summit 800 map so maybe I still have that feature since the summits had that to start with???

I wonder if I have to do the same thing with my 05 REV. I have a set of BRP race twins that I wanna run, but don't know what type of tuning I need to run them!
