Ski Doo or Cat

Buy the one that you can get the best local dealer support from after the sale. Example - The evening before I left for our last trip, I needed a throttle cable for the M8. My dealer didn't have one on the shelf and took one off a new sled they had on the showroom floor - all this an hour before they closed for the holidays.

Another is buy the brand all your buddies have - Sharing belts or other spare parts on the side of a mountain is much easier when you're all riding the same thing.

There is a lot to be said about dealer support and friends. These two combined will give you more riding time.

I'd ride both and see what YOU like....we can argue on here for days and get nowhere. For me, sleds are all about "fun factor" and this is where the Doo's shine.

If you're worried about 1st year XP issues, I'd pick up a low-mile 07 Rev. The ride, handling and power (M1 excluded) are head and shoulders above the M's, and there are lots available for good prices with the usual goodies already installed. After some seat time on a good Rev, the M's feel a bit dated IMO. That will come down to preference tho....as stuff like bars, seat, riser length, are easily changed and can make/break a sled's feel.

This thread pretty much sums up why I don't ride Doo

I want the XP to work as much as the next guy, but I refuse to subject myself to the headache and expense those things might induce.

All sleds have problems

Doo guys say "I wish this XP didn't eat belts, blow engines or break driive shafts

Poo guys sayin "I wish this Dragon 800 didn't nose dive or engine cut out"

Cat guys Sayin " I wish this M8 had more power, handled better on the trail"

Yamaha guys sayin " I wish this sled didn't weigh so much"

Like choosin your next president, decide which is the lesser evil and cast your ballot. (or ride old iron)

I choose M8 last year, bought after market stuff to get it up to par ergo wise...I'm still low on power though (no engine mods yet)

I can almost turbo a new M8 for the cost of a D800 though, food for thought it your inclined to mod your sled.

All the boost in the world don't mean sh** in steep and deep covered in trees. Bet that boost works out well for ya in the meadows and trail. Plus I think boost is a requirement when the sled weighs about twice as much as a real mountain sled.

Hey RX 1 guy, I find it hard to believe that you can make a comparison like that when both the M8 and the XP are so much farther up the hill then your sled that you can't honestly see either one!! And I will say this, we rode with a Xp with a 146 yesterday and it will flat out climb very well, even better then my 8. But I still will take the M over it just because there is more to it then who can climb the best!:D

My money is on his boosted rx1 ton over your M.

i post in a topic over what i see on the hill and the lovely guys at snowest, yet another guy from colorado who is obviously matt's friend who i have never met before, comes to flame me.

Thank god people on snowest know how to keep topics on track. First you say that they are further up the hill than me. When i tell you i have boost you add that this certain hill is covered in trees. I dont have a problem going through the trees on a hillclimb with my sled. Do i like it? hell no. i like to shoot up a wide open hill. Can i do it if the time comes? Sure can.

 You go snowest!

Never riden an M8 but had an 05 M6. Trail manners were horrible but it did everything in the powder well. It did have the attack 20 track that did not help the trail ridding. I have 2 new XP's that are great all around sleds except for the clutching issues which I hope will be resolved soon.

Ive seen you ride. You would hurt yourself in the trees with me and Co. Matt. It dont matter, its all about what a guy likes. But Back to the subject of the post. Side by side the doo will out climb the 8 but thats where the benifits of the xp stop. Still a decent sled though.

I rode an M8 for the first time this weekend. I hated it. It had good power but the chassis is horrible. I mostly boondock and play, and I currently ride an 05 REV. The REV chasis is better than the M Chasis, at least for what I do. IF you point the M straight up the hill, then that is fine, but for boondocking there is no comparison even between the REV and the M. I have not rode the XP, but from what I have heard from the guy in our group, he loves it. Although he has spent some money to get it where he likes it.

After riding the M8, there is NO way I would buy one. Just my 2 cents.

If you like it, that is cool, glad you like your sled, but you really should ride it before you buy it, that goes for ANY sled.

 Another guy who ive never met and yet has seen me ride. You probably saw me a year or two ago when i was still a noob at riding. Ive only been riding 4 years  . I never said i would keep up with you in the trees. Last i checked i dont race people up the hill through the trees though. Is that they way you do it? whoever wins the race up the hill gets the highmark, rather than the guy who goes the highest but takes a little longer

ive only seen 1 M8 on the snow and it didnt compare to the XP. yet you have seen me ride and you are not the person i saw on the M8

Seems all these people on snowest have ridden with me on their keyboards. I seem to be getting to be a better rider after adding boost. Im still learning my sled though and scared to do most things unless its an open hill because i have no idea what my sled will do now with boost. have to relearn the throttle.

It climbs well now. it just needs a new track as the A20 digs a huge trench. has unlimited track speed but just makes a trench. i need a camo extreme to make it a better climber

I rode with an XP 146 and an M1000 153 this past week. I had a chance to take both of them for a ride. Both had no problems with over 400 miles during the week around yellowstone. I was very impressed with the xp, it went like stink up the hill and seemed to float really well. The M1000 is a beast, it will go anywhere, and obviously should, it's got 1000cc. With that being said, I felt more comfortable on the M, I thought it rides more comfortably to me, but the xp with a little setup work would have been better for me. I feel that you couldn't go wrong with both, comes to personal preference. Just my opinion...

I Have An Xp 163 And I Love The Hell Outta It! Runs Real Well!! Rode With Some M8's And Some Are Good Some Arent Mostly Depends On The Riders. I Think I Have About 400 Miles And No Problems With It Gotta Love It. I Think The Dragon Will Be Closer To My Xp Then The Cat 8 Although The 1000 Is A Good Sled, But It Mostly Depends On The Rider.

XP all day over the M8. The M8 is a nice sled when modded but nowhere close to the XP.

arcticman31 said it himself. The XP 146 outclimbed him.

By the way arcticman31, it's than, not then, when comparing 2 things. For instance: "the XP is better THAN the M8" rather than "the XP is better THEN the M8."

I will take me on my MCExpress Apex in the trees ANY DAY OF THE WEEK over your M8.

Thanks a pant load chet for correcting my grammar. Good to know we have a english teacher on here to make sure our posts are worded correctly. You yamaha guys have TONS of fun out there.:D Did I spell tons right teacher?:D
