Ski Doo or Cat

I just want to hear the truth from people who have seen both perform side by side or have ridden both in like conditions. I guess I was asking to hear the truth, not brand bashing. Sorry for the confusion

Both are not bad but you can't beat the DD on the M series. I have rode both the XP and M sreies. I own an 07 M8. The XP is sweet lite and handles real well on the trails. The M however has no trail manners but does better in the deep deep pow. This year I have only seen two M's have problems that called for a tow. I seen seven XP's being towed. Like I said both great sleds just a matter of opinion. Remember 98% rider 2% sled

Saw a couple of XP's the other day after a big dump, and they wouldn't leave the trail. M8's were all over the place. The 08 M8 is going to be tuff to beat right out of the box.

Buy the one that you can get the best local dealer support from after the sale. Example - The evening before I left for our last trip, I needed a throttle cable for the M8. My dealer didn't have one on the shelf and took one off a new sled they had on the showroom floor - all this an hour before they closed for the holidays.

Another is buy the brand all your buddies have - Sharing belts or other spare parts on the side of a mountain is much easier when you're all riding the same thing.

Stock vs stock, the xp has more power. It also costs quite a bit more. I love my M-8 and feel it has a better bottom end. I've ridden 2 xp's and they have a healthier top end. I am very suprised with the performance of the xp with a 146" track. I'm still a firm believer that in the deepest fluffiest snow, nothing will go like an M. There really is no loser if each is properly set up and have some small issues worked out.

i rode a m8 sno pro 153 a few weeks ago in cooke and thought it ran good but was pretty ill handleing when on 1 ski..seems to have a mind of its own...the skis move from left to right without any driver imput..i tried it several time and it is spooky ..rod my xp in the same meadow and could ride it 1 handed...could be set up but it belonged to a dealer in ND..should have been ready to go...stock to stock..NOT even close..i wanted to ride it just for a second choice of sleds..it changed my mind..D-8 is my second choice after riding the M8...JUST my observation,,

TA, I feel the same way on the XP. I can do absolutely anything on my M's but can't hardly steer the XP to save my life! I'm sure if I rode it for a couple of hours, I'd figure it out. This is just the case of what a person is used to. As with any sled, set up is very important.

Hey RX 1 guy, I find it hard to believe that you can make a comparison like that when both the M8 and the XP are so much farther up the hill then your sled that you can't honestly see either one!! And I will say this, we rode with a Xp with a 146 yesterday and it will flat out climb very well, even better then my 8. But I still will take the M over it just because there is more to it then who can climb the best!:D

Played on an untracked fairly steep powder hill Saturday. There were 2 xp's, 800 dragon, m1000 and my little m800. My little m8 was the first one to make the top and the m1000 fallowed. The xp's and dragon never did make it although they were close and probably could have track poached it (but no one was there for that reason). It was a good test and I will say that I was impressed with both the dragon and xp (especially the dragon, great potential). Was mostly disapointed in the m1000 as it had all the bolt on mods and the rider was 70 lbs lighter than me...........but it isn't the first m1000 that I've put a hurtin on :)

I'm guessing that had to have something to do with rider skill...

love the M in the deep, this is my favorite type of riding. nothing like floating from one ski to the other, jetski-ing down a nice steep slope with 15 feet of pow rolling in front of me. this is where the m just can't be beat, might not always get the highest mark on the hill, but is beat by none in the pow!!! must give props to the doo for power and weight, but thier rep for reliability was never great and the xp is doing nothing to improve this image...

I have ridden both and being a completely impartial Polaris guy....I will tell you that when it comes down to a awesome climbing and all around FUN sled...I would pic the XP...the M8 doesn't have the snap or the power that the XP does and you notice it big time ridding them side by side..

With that said....you haven't ridden a better handling more reliable and powerful sled till you have saddled up a 800 Dragon.....the M8 as one fella put it isn't even in the same class as the XP or the Dragon for that matter.

Here is another coment...

I rode pretty much every sled made over a two day stretch at the snoshoot media ride last year and I agree with Yamadoo that the XP is not very impressive. Sure it goes great up a mountian for a stock sled but that is just about having a 163x16 track and weighing 528lb (wet weight on the scales). I enjoy boondocking and sidehilling too much to ride a XP, it is the most unexciting sled to ride in its class. The Polaris 800 on the other hand is an absolute hoot to ride, so much fun. I think anyone that is considering an XP needs to remember that snowmobiling is about having fun and not about having the most impressive spec sheet on paper.
Thats my two cents on the XP program.

and thats my .02 also...:D

It depends on how much time you want to spend riding vs changing belts and downtime at the dealer having motors replaced. Having owned a m8 last year I give that sled the props as the only warranty issue I had in 1000 miles was a leaky gas cap that I probably tightened too much. Stock belt lasted the whole time. Traded it in on a m1000 and am very happy with this sled as well. Now go read some xp threads and make your decision from there. It should be called xb...(xtra belts)! lmao

M 1000 here, 500 miles no problems, original belt, been through chest deep powder up hill and no problem. the midrange tq. is unreal for a stocker.
