Who out there has tried the wide gen II's on an M series? I have an 09 M1000and am looking for some new powder skis, I'm a big guy and would like to help out my sled in the deep a bit. Are the gen II's what I'm looking for, or are they too much? I have also looked at the SLP powder pros and Sly dog powder hounds but havent talked to anyone who ran them. I ran the regular simmons on my old sled and liked them but thought the gen II's might be better suited for me, maybe not? Any info would be appreciated, thanks:confused:

I can only speak for the Powder Hounds and Powder Pros
It is as simple as this to me IMO

Powder Hounds:mad:

SLP Powder Pros:):D:face-icon-small-hap

I liked them on the m chassis.. Its takes some getting used to for the feel on laying the sled over.. but overall I liked them better than the gen I's or the powder pros.. I'm 6'3 and 275.. so dont find it hard to throw the sled around.. I will be running them on the dragon chassis this year..

That's a nice lookin cat ya got there aaay

Ive been running them for the last 2 seasons, I love em, great on hard pack and amazing in the deep. the biggest con that anyone can argue is that they are wide and dont sidehill as well, but if your a big guy your not gonna have a problem laying over a M chassis anyway, Im 215 lbs. and dont have a problem and love the flotation, first time you cut trail in 2+ feet , you'll understand.

I loved them on my Tapex! Definitly on the fence about putting them on my M8. Only con I can see is they are some heavy sob's:p

I plan to upgrade my skis as well but, I'm a little spooked by how wide the front end of the sled becomes with skis this wide. I like to boondock and it's oftentimes in tight canyons where the tree spacing is tight. Now if the ski mounts were only on the outer portion of these skis with most of the extra width going inside the spindle...................

PS: I hear Simmons will have a new ski out in January that will knock our socks off. It may be worth the wait?

I am sure they work well as the old Simmons did. But they are the most ridiculous looking ski's I have ever seen. There is no way I would put those on my sled. I have Powder Pro's.

A good fix for the crap sidehill action with those skis is to cut off the outside portion of the ski to where a regular simmons would be. Bit of a compromise I know but you then get the best of both worlds: normal sidehilling and more float as the inside of the skis are still wider than regular. Plenty o' float with em this way,,,,, still normal for tree riding too.

Hey Frostbite, where did you hear this about the new Simmons ski?

I'd prefer not to pass on my source but, let's just say the prototypes were nearly universally loved. They supposedly are so good that guys who tried them are refusing to give them back but, that may be just hearsay?

January does sound like a strange time to introduce a new ski. I would think I'd want it in the first snowmobile magazines of the season that show up in August?

I'm very close to buying Powder Pros myself but, now I have bumped the purchase of new skis back a few items on my wish list just to see if these new skis materialize.

They are only a half inch wider on my t-nytro with the bushings shoved to the outside, compared to the stock skis. The nytro doesn't tip up as easy but the nytro's tip up way easy anyway. I am a powder pro fan. I would use the powder pros on a 2 stroke. I wanted to try them on the nytro but I never did. I think you need two pairs of skis for the nytro, depending on snow .It doesn,t tip up as easy as it did but that is not a problem. The are way heavy but I don't think that is that big a deal because they are running on the ground.

Turboless Terry, the Yamaha mountain skis are very, very similar to the Powder Pros (some say they are lose copy). I have the Yamaha powder skis on my RX-1M and my son's Mountain Max and love them.

In fact, I have an extra pair, I should see if the mounts are close enough to get them to fit on my M8.

If you don't like your Nytro skis, you should have saw what came on the RX-1M in 03 and my MSRX in 98. Mountain ski development has come a long way in 10 years.

Take care

Frosty

Not happy with Gen I, was very Happy with Gen II on the 07 08 m1000 but on the 09 they did not work as well, the 09 is lighter and the 2 wheel kit makes the sidehilling geometry different. Also they are at least 6lbs heavier than stock. they still work great on the trail and in the powder but while climbing they skis are never on the ground anyway. The stock skis are the ulimate POS though, (but light). Take into mind I have only tested these skis with a full slp exhaust so it make the sled 16lbs lighter, on the 09 I have dropped about 28lbs.

WyoBoy1000 you answered one of my bigger questions on these skis and that was how much more they really weighed, I'm looking to put these skis on my 09 as well so what do you think would be the better answer then the Gen 2's? Does anybody know how wide the powder pros are, thats one bit of info on them I havent been able to find.
