Sieze? ideas?

so i just rebuilt my entire engine 500 miles ago. new crank, crankcase, pistons, and clutch. today on our ride my engine siezed when i turned it off.... so i went over to the clutch and broke the engine loose again and it started and i ran it out. after i got it unseized it ran great and it ran great before it seized. so whats going on? any ideas?

lol why would you continue to run it after it seized?
what year is it?
cooling problem?
is it getting oil?
what pistons are in it?

well it was either ride it out or leave it and its been left up there too many times already and it ran fine after i got it running. and yes it used the normal amount of oil. temperature was fine. its the 05 and we just put the OEM 06 pistons in it.

Have you had a chance to pull the pipe and have a look at the pistons for signs of scuffing?

Is there a chance you could have simply cold-siezed it?

im going to remove the pipe tomorrow and have a look. and it was 40 degrees when we were riding so i doubt it was a cold seize.
No i havent checked the clearance. how do i do that?
both the cylinders had good compression and it ran fine after. i dont know what to think. guess ill just tear it apart. again. and have a look.

That doesn't make any sense. You sure when " you unseized it", you weren't just breaking a melted hyfax loose from the clips?

polaris gold. i usually put a quart of oil with every full tank.

That seems very rich. 44:1

I'm still laughing.

A quart per tank would be 40:1 not out of line for a 900 IMO.

40:1 = 3.2 oz per gallon

3.2 oz times 10 gallons = 32 oz. or 1 quart

As for the seize, like mentioned, you should pull the Y and the boots at least. If it were mine, I would be pulling the head off as well. You need to verify correct piston to cylinder wall clearances, new t-body boots, new t-stat, cleaned and tested fuel injectors. This is just a few off the top of my head.

You already have too much money in this thing to not be doing EVERYTHING!!!

sieze

Sounds like you could have a leaking PTO side crank seal. With all of the oil you're running and engine temp OK it sounds like an x-file to me.:face-icon-small-hap Was the engine pressure checked after assembly to verify no air leaks? I guess it could be a partialy plugged injector on the PTO side too. What was the engine temp? Seems really strange.

40:1 plus whatever the ratio is the oil injections adds. When I say a lot, I mean there should have been far more oil than was necessary and that lack of lubrication should not have been a problem,
