Sidehilling.....

Im curious to hear how the Alpha sidehills, especially in snow that's setup. Worried it will have a nasty tendency to wash out, and can't find a single vid online of anyone attempting an advanced sidehill. Let me know how they are working out for you!

I've read every single review on here. It seems that the only time washout gets mentioned is by people you do not own them. The general consensus is if you are washing out its a matter of using to much throttle. The Alpha needs far less track speed to maintain forward movement across the hill.

Only time I've washed out is with slick stuff under powder. Was riding straddled up so couldn't catch myself with foot. It happened so fast that it was all over but the crying. They will all do it to a point. Throttle control helps a bunch but one scenario it wasn't an option. I am willing to give it a pass. It might not be quite as good as an axys in marginal snow but I'm guessing it's minute. I ride with a turbo axys every day. I go everywhere he does. He even loves it. The alpha is made for deep powder and sidehilling. Not the least bit disappointed.

Was riding Saturday and had a technical icey corner to get around. My slpha did wash out but so did the 17’ and 18’ axys that was with me. Wasn’t expecting the icey spot, so to much throttle was involved.

I agree with the above. "alpha is made for deep powder and sidehilling". I definitely bought some talent when I snow checked this bad boy. If "set up snow" means having to chew through some layers of denser snow to gain ground on a sidehill it can do it and not wash out especially if your an experience mt rider. I noticed a huge improvement in sidehilling coming off a 154" XM. Icy and semi hardpack sidehills might be challenging. Theres not much surface area of the track hitting the snow with the few paddles spread so far apart. Thats a guess though from having to hit the loading ramp at about 15mph to get it in the truck.

Foot placement on the runningboard is especially sensitive on the Alpha. On steep sidehills you have to be as far forward as possible to keep the sled from washing out. If washing out is still an issue, you may need to lower your handlebars so more weight can be transferred to the front of the sled.

Mike this sled side hills really well. I haven’t had any issue with washing out, sled is very forgiving in a sidehill. You are welcome to ride mine anytime.

Had no complaints about the Alpha sidehilling until yesterday, was in very wind blown hard snow for the first time all year which is no fun on any sled but the Alpha was by far the worst sled I’ve been on in those conditions.

It will be interesting seeing what everyone thinks as the the snow gets harder.
