Sick Rev 800

She's got 3300 hard mi on her and now she's throwing issues at me...typical.
It all started with the engine. It pulls hard to 79-8000 which was great..the out of nowhere it kicks to 8300 and runs like a raped ape..which I like.! It did'nt do this all the time and it did'nt really matter what elevation I was at.

Another blissful issue..I started to notice that when I would put on the brights, all of the idiot lights would come on for a second, everything would go dark, then the brights would come on..But still ran hard. I changed out the relay, but no go...magneto..voltage regulator??

And now the kicker..I baby her..I treat her right..and BAM!! I lose power 4 miles out of the snowpark..but she still pulled over fine and it got back to the park which seemed like on 1&1/2 cylinders..checked compression and it was 60 on the PTO side..150 on the Mag side. I dont think it was a cold sieze..will a ring just go out?? Why the PTO side?? It uses plenty of oil..

Any help on the issues of this relationship would make both of us very happy!!
Thanks

Sound like a crankcase leak. Maybe it was leaning out when it would rev up to 8300. Was it running 8300 when it blew? Probly leaned out and melted down.

A crankcase leak will make you blow a piston in a couple 100 yards. Mine did it.

I was going down a groomed trail at say 6000..I did however try to light it up a couple of times to see if it would go to 8300..I dont think it did

I would recommend to check your reed boots especially if they are stock. On my 04' they started to de-laminate. They looked fine, but when we pressure tested the motor we had a leak. Soapy water solution told us that the reed boot was a problem. If they are allowing outside air to enter, they could lean your motor out giving you more power-until it blows up.-good luck!

Just pulled the jug and Guess What....a blown piston and fried cylinder. So that takes care of that..
Any guesses on the electrical issue

Thanks guys for all of your time and help!!!

Yeah, but what caused the motor to fail in the first place? If you just rebuild it and ride it with no fix to what caused the failure; you more than likely have a failure again.

What does your blown piston look like? Is the top eroded away? Was it just scored along the sides? If it was, was it all the way around? It's kind of hard to tell what the problems are if I cant see or be told what the piston looks like! If you can post some pictures of what the piston looks like!
