Shrink - A- Doo

My dilema : I'm 5' 4" and even though I can ride/ handle my '03 ZX 800, I look like a monkey humpin' a football and sometimes I feel like one.

My Goal: Since I won't grow another inch in my entire lifetime, I wanna make my sled smaller.

The only solution I can think of is to transplant my engine and rear skid/ track into a smaller sled.

Does anyone know of any sleds that would be good candidates for this? Or maybe you have a better solution? I'm open to ideas!

Thanks.............. Bob

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a TNT or 146 Summit. Anywhere from 400lbs to 430ish lbs. Maybe a quick disconnect on the swaybar so you can lay it over easier. You may also want to look into the 600 Etec unless you are a power junkie. I see you're coming off of an 800 and the 800r will be a huge bump from that 03.

Look for Thistledoo in the Yamaha section. He rides an apex and he is an oompa-loompa. May I suggest elevator boots and anti handle bar risers.

Thanks for the advice so far, but the problem isn't really that I can't manuever the sled, it's more of a cosmetic thing. I saw myself on video and realized I look like a typical 10 year old on his dad's sled. It is quite embarrassing.

The elevator shoes work ok for driving my truck, but I think it might prove disasterous for riding the sled. So that was a lame solution:rolleyes:;)

I definately can't go backwards in performance. Any thing less than an 800 just won't do. I have an 07 Rev, too, but I don't want to modify it. My 03 isn't worth as much, so I don't mind taking the running gear out and swapping to a smaller chassis.

A few years ago, a Snowester named 383LB800 put a Polaris 800 motor into an old Arctic Cat chassis complete with leaf spring front end. I don't want anything THAT old!

How about a mid 80's phazer?? Or ???

Please don't take this the wrong way.....but riding style might be a big factor, along with how the sled is settup. The ZX chassis is probably one of the easier sleds to throw around, perhaps a bar riser to give a little more leverage?? Removing the sway bar will make it easier to pull over. Have you spent time on other chassis to compare? The lighter the sled the easier it will be to throw around, a new XP chassis is a honest 80 lbs lighter than a ZX.

Hey Moonman..... Talk Harley into making a Dyna "Low Rider" sled and you got yourself a sale:D Until then, I'll have to check out this Tundra you speak of.

From the other posts, I'm guessing I should clarify this :

I want a physically smaller sled only so I'll LOOK like I am old enough to ride it.

How about a newer phazer, my wife is 5'2 and loves mine.
Boost it, longer track, and with your assumed lighter weight
you'll go anywhere you want to, and look the right size too.

(oh yeah mines for sale... ;) )

xp's are small sleds.
Anyone over 6' tall looks like a gorrilla on the thing.
Slap DJ's clutch kit in it and you'll beat any stock sled on the mountain....and look good doing it.

Hmmm... smaller sled but need 800 power...

The only problem is the ZX is a dinasaur...and going any older is just a waste of time/money and effort...

Anything smaller/older isnt liquid cooled and or doesnt have room for a bigger track... without a major undertaking

Making your ZX look smaller could be done...

Start with the seat...the polaris dragon seat would make it look smaller...or a thinner shorter BOSS seat.. a mesh hood would clean things up and save weight....

FYI...I look llike monkey frogging a football...YOU look like a spider monkey rid'n a sled...hey wanna race my sleds for me???-LOL-BJ

who cares what people think!

Hey bro, I'm on the other end of the spectrum. Reading a couple posts above I just found out I look like a gorilla on my xp! - I'm 6-06, 280 lbs. And people say I dwarf my R1 motorcycle. But really, who cares. It sounds like you know how to ride and with your light frame you could outclimb me and anyone else. It reminds me of newbies going to the weight room for the first time. They think everyone is looking at them because they don't have a build yet. But really, everyone is into themselves too much to pay attention to anyone else! I would say that's pretty accurate on the mountain too.

Ive seen a couple Freestyles with 800's in them. Throw on a 151 track and done. CR racing did one a couple years ago.

Hmmm, well maybe it isn't as big a deal as I am making it out to be. Swapping my running gear to a smaller air cooled type sled would definately be a big project and it would probably ride like crap.

I'll look into the seat/ hood areas on the ol' ZX like BJ suggested. 383LB800 dropped a Polaris 800 motor into an El Tigre, I think it was. He said there was quite a bit of fabrication needed and that it was a massive undertaking. It rode like a buckboard, but dang that thing went well in the powder.

Kinda sucks sometimes to be short, but oh well. If I lived closer to you Big John, I'd love to pilot your sleds. I only weigh 140# and I like to go fast!

Thanks for the suggestions.:)
