Well, well. BIG JOHN has got the "go" recipe down. If you have been thinking about doing an 860 kit, don't. That's right don't "think" about, Doo it!!!. This thing pulls and pulls and pulls. Today's ride was at 10k to 10.5k, 25 degrees in a foot of fresh pow on top of a 3" base I rode 'er 3 miles nice and easy, shut 'er down and looked everything over. Not much to look at since BIG JOHN did the motor and Felkers did the motor install and clutching install. No leaks, no rattles, no missing parts. My sled has BIG JOHNS clutch kit, billet adjuster for the secondary, a shockwave adjustable helix, and quick clickers. This set-up was very close. I was pulling 8300 rpm on the short pulls, so I clicked 'er down to #2 and had 8150 RPM. With the shockwave helix getting the shift out RPM dialed was a piece of cake. From 0 mph to 50 mph, if you grabbed the throttle, she would rip up to 8150 and stay there. No over-revving at all. Very good clutching BIG JOHN(that's coming from a "Lynn Felker Groupie";that says alot). After a 20 minute sit, off for another 10 miles of on and off the loud handle. After a few more short full throttle pulls and another sit she had 25 miles on 'er. From 25-27 miles, I did alot of smiling I did a bunch of 4-5 second pulls, coasting down to about 10 mph, and repeat the process for that last 2 miles. I then parked my sled and took my uncles '09 XP163X out for it's maiden voyage. I followed the same "recipe" for break in on that sled as well. The stock XP's pull purdy dog gone good. That being said, it's amazing how much harder the 860r pulled. With the stock sled you need to pay attention to which direction you are going before grabbing the loud handle. With the 860r, forget paying attention, you had better have a plan! I had a hard time focusing on the trail It should be about 10-15% stronger than stock. That may not sound like much, but it feels every bit of that. This was a very close comparison, but not exact science. My unlce's '09 is a 163. Mine is a 154 with Toms snowmobile Evol Air Suspension. Tom's set-up transfers just the right amount for some serious traction allowing my 154 to hook up better than the 163. My sled would lift the ski's about a foot or so, while the 163 was a few inches. Of course the 860r probably had something to do with the ski height One more break in ride and then it's time to throw the 470 mains in 'er and see what that gives us. I can't wait for more snow
