Well, well. BIG JOHN has got the "go" recipe down. If you have been thinking about doing an 860 kit, don't. That's right don't "think" about, Doo it!!!:face-icon-small-ton. This thing pulls and pulls and pulls. Today's ride was at 10k to 10.5k, 25 degrees in a foot of fresh pow on top of a 3" base:eek: I rode 'er 3 miles nice and easy, shut 'er down and looked everything over. Not much to look at since BIG JOHN did the motor and Felkers did the motor install and clutching install. No leaks, no rattles, no missing parts. My sled has BIG JOHNS clutch kit, billet adjuster for the secondary, a shockwave adjustable helix, and quick clickers. This set-up was very close. I was pulling 8300 rpm on the short pulls, so I clicked 'er down to #2 and had 8150 RPM. With the shockwave helix getting the shift out RPM dialed was a piece of cake. From 0 mph to 50 mph, if you grabbed the throttle, she would rip up to 8150 and stay there. No over-revving at all. Very good clutching BIG JOHN(that's coming from a "Lynn Felker Groupie":D;that says alot). After a 20 minute sit, off for another 10 miles of on and off the loud handle. After a few more short full throttle pulls and another sit she had 25 miles on 'er. From 25-27 miles, I did alot of smiling:):D I did a bunch of 4-5 second pulls, coasting down to about 10 mph, and repeat the process for that last 2 miles. I then parked my sled and took my uncles '09 XP163X out for it's maiden voyage. I followed the same "recipe" for break in on that sled as well. The stock XP's pull purdy dog gone good. That being said, it's amazing how much harder the 860r pulled. With the stock sled you need to pay attention to which direction you are going before grabbing the loud handle. With the 860r, forget paying attention, you had better have a plan! I had a hard time focusing on the trail:D It should be about 10-15% stronger than stock. That may not sound like much, but it feels every bit of that. This was a very close comparison, but not exact science. My unlce's '09 is a 163. Mine is a 154 with Toms snowmobile Evol Air Suspension. Tom's set-up transfers just the right amount for some serious traction allowing my 154 to hook up better than the 163. My sled would lift the ski's about a foot or so, while the 163 was a few inches. Of course the 860r probably had something to do with the ski height:rolleyes: One more break in ride and then it's time to throw the 470 mains in 'er and see what that gives us. I can't wait for more snow:face-icon-small-ton:clock::face-icon-small-ton

Sounds awesome...I want some!! Does Big John work with any dealers in North Idaho?

The way I went about was to take my sled to my local dealer, and had them pull the motor. I built a box and had my dealer ship it to SHR/BIG JOHN intact. BIG JOHN did the assembly and disassembly and shipped it back to my dealer who "shoved" the motor back in. If your local dealer is a good guy, he should be happy to do the same thing. It's the best 3 g's i've ever spent:face-icon-small-ton:eek:(not counting my wife's anniversary ring:rolleyes:)

I was praying for snow pretty hard before yesterday; but since riding the beast, i've been praying so hard my eyes are bleeding! J/K. I have a direct line with the BIG MAN and he said that it will snow this winter:D

Trinity did you run the 15 wide or 16 wide with it. GREAT to see that it is running strong. Did you play with the shockwave much? What are your thoughts?

Turnaround time was about 6 weeks. Yes, it's a long time, but it was worth it. For now, I still have the stock track, 154, on it. I'm waiting for some good pow before I put the Extreme on. As for the Shockwave, it was pretty slick. BIG JOHNS clutching was very, very close. I was over-reving just a pinch during shiftout. A quick 20 second adjustment of the Shockwave got me to 8150 rpm on every pull from every speed. I'm not sure how much I'll need to use it, but it was awesome to know that my sled was running at peak rpm all the way through. Good stuff!

I don't know about track speed yet DaveB. 12" of fresh on a 2" base isn't really "trackspeedable":) I didn't even look at the springs or any of the clutch goodies from BIG JOHN before Lynn set it up. As far as the helix, i'm not sure how you can tell with a Shockwave what your angle is. Right now i'm 3 threads/turns out from the secondary. I think 1 rotation of the ring is 3.5 degrees. I turned mine in about a 1/4 to 1/2 from where Lynn set it up. So i'm a little under the 3 turns out:confused: I know, i'm retarded; but that's why I paid Lynn to put it together for me:face-icon-small-ton

The sleds back in the shop for 470 mains, a little more shim for the needles, and some more pin weight. She was running a little hot in the middle. 80 miles on 'er and she's pulling the top end at 8150 rpm like a monster. Side by side with two'09's, both HPS's, I pull two sled lenghts in a 3-4 second pull. Very nice, and naughty:rolleyes:, indeed. The Camo extreme 156x15 is also going on. Next report should be next Wed. or Thurs.

Do some head to head against the 162 you ran against to see how the track does.

Cheers

I did, and I will! The two '09's are both 163's. The short climb, and the trail runs, was my 154 vs 163, me getting 20 feet higher. I think the Camo 2.5 will really help use the torque of the 860r in those slow, grinding climbs, were turning out isn't an option. Next week:D:beer;
