SHR 880 vs stock bore, uphill drag race.

I have been reading and following the 880 and the 872 threads and I do believe that they make power over stock sled, I have been modding sleds for years and at the end of the day the stocker will be riding and making it the same places as me (maybe not as easy but makes it) watching the vids and reading these threads gives me the itch, but I promissed myself to truly give a stocker a real good chance, I just made the change back to doo since my 07 rev (which I loved) and now on a t-3, the sled seems pretty strong right out of the box if there is some good setups to dial in a stocker (clutching gearing) I would appreciate the info thanks

Dynamo Joes set up works very well for me on the 800 and my girlfriends on her 600 as well. Great upshift as well as backshift.
Dragging 660 in loose snow it is consistently 2 to 6 sled length ahead of stock clutching ( depending on how you come of the line) . In the powder it back-shifts smooth as butter just pins the rpm where you need it.

Ditto on what Brew said...dialing in the rear skid is money & time well spent IMO.

Oh and back in the day when all we rode was 440 & 500 133 in the steep and deep. We would wear ourselves out trying to get over the 1st hill...Than the XLT 580 and AC 580 powder special made life a little easier but getting over those big hills was still a lot of work...Than in 97 Polaris introduced a ugly teal colored 700 and life in the backcountry became easier to get there still had to pound the hills to get there on the 136 1.5 lug....than in 1999/2000 skidoo came out with this crazy long track sled that really made life easier.. By now nobody wanted 700 because the 800 where so much better and with a 2 inch track under you you where busting powder pretty easily....Today's new sled with there ridiculous longer foot print and even bigger lugs allow riders to go into the backcountry farther and deeper than ever before and those big hills that once to a lot of work these modern hot rods were riding today bust up those big hills with ease...Especially the T3 - 174 that bad boy is a tractor on the hill with its big floatations.

Same old same old every spring these sales pitch threads pop up. Another apples to oranges comparison in the video's. Not one single person has ever posted a stock vs bb sled with the same exact everything except motor and clutching. Until then these threads show the same as always the sled with the bigger track wins...

Well, the only difference is the motors and clutching. Yes, the stock bore is a 154. But, in the spring snow it should've actually been an advantage.

I'm not here to argue any of this. I do not work for big John or anything like that. This is a comparison of my sled versus my wife's. That's all. Take it how you please.

Here is all I need to say... When I'm ready for a new sled, my wife will take this 880(I have no doubts it will still be running like a champ) and I will send my brand new top end with zero miles to John for another BB. I will never ride stock again. Anyone who is considering the BB, do it! It runs smoother, better and out pulls stock by a long shot.

You hit the nail on the head on that one. Anybody that says a stock clutched sled will be in the same ball park hasn't been riding anything but the keyboard and should go outside for some fresh air.

Why is the 880 kit $300 more than the 860? Not bashing.......honest question.

no worries...

pistons cost more
cylinder work costs more
makes more power

SHR is the ONLY BB shop that offers...

BB clutching for ALL years/model/tracks/elevation
gearing to match
chassis/shocks to match
track swaps/recomendations
exhaust mods that work
accessories that work
17 years experience riding/building/tuning BB Summits :face-icon-small-hap

Summer pricing in play!! as for pricing $1795 gets you 180 hp 860 etec or $1995 with clutching and gearing complete package...yest there are more options for the "pro active" rider but that is a choice not mandatory...

Hey Steve...please dont quote $$ whats required for a BB DOO...your not qualified:face-icon-small-coo BJ

FYI- TKI Tom can give a winters worth of comparisons with his PG 860 (2014/154) vs MANY of other mod sleds :face-icon-small-win

Hey John I think after owning 9 BB over the years I know what they cost..By the way for $1795.00 what do you get ?....The bare minimum ?

List what you get for $1795.00 so folks can compare apples with apples.

So the 880 would be these prices + 300.00? Any required fueling is also included? What's the piston diameter between the 800, 860 and 880?

Steve...Um No, No you dont...:face-icon-small-coo

SHR BB kit is a complete running top end with instructions and tuning tips...extra $$ for specific extra mods as needed...when you call I find out what mods you have ALREADY and WHAT you want out of the package (average BB phone call is 30+ minutes long) and help you make everything work together...I only poo poo items that I KNOW dont work with MY motors...AGAIN things nobody else does...:sun:

17 years of riding BB DOOs and been on SW since 2001 helping fellow riders...................:face-icon-small-hap

laundryboy...call for details, I offer too many "combinations" to fit your needs to list here...as for bores 82,85,86 mm

TJ427...will look for them!

DPG what do your big bore kits include, or do you even offer a kit that you build for the consumer to buy, if you don't currently offer big bore kits you should think about jumping into that market considering your vast knowledge
in said market.
The currant line of engine builders out there offer what the market will support, not all consumers have a endless supply of $$ as it seems you
do.
What they do offer is a product, knowledge, customer support and service for there product and the customer that drops the coin with them.

Why don't you do us all a favor, if you have a problem pick up the phone or better yet go visit the people you want to bash or discredit and have that conversation with them, as an Adult.

DPG--pulled directly off BJ's website for you. I wish I would ever remember a camera. 880 beat buds 872 badly last time out. 2.5" camo hooked up much better than new style 3" camo. Old style 3'' is a much better track for d..k measuring contests. Either way, less track was better for the day. We compare all the time. Deeper snow goes other way. Running different ramps in primary, same springs, both shock wave, ts skids, alt imp front ends, post forward, bored carbs, reeds, y pipes, etc (880 has Jaws twin right now but no time on them this season). Sleds are practically kissing cousins. Only real difference is track and motor. Doesn't seem you were going to try a 880 anyway. Forgot 880 has powervalve mod also. Seems to gain a little mid and top, but hurt bottom slightly. Not a big deal w/ big bore. Personal preference on that one.

Mtn master--thanks for posting vid. Glad to see someone remembered a camera. I never seem to be able to. 880 looks like a strong runner. If I ever step up to etec world, definitely be getting one.

Thanks Swerv......

Lots of 872 will be lining up at the Ghee this weekend Hint Hint ..It would be nice to see and 880 show up for once. We all know it talks the talk but can it walk the walk ?

DPG

Wish I could be there, have been invited multiple times, but just can't fit it into the schedule this year. I'd gladly line up my "old junk" against DPG's mouth.:face-icon-small-win

I wouldn't do such a thing.....funny thing about the 925 vs 872 drag racing on hard pack the 925 is a screamer. In the deep powder the 872 is neck & neck with the 925...The difference being the skidoo XM chassie if far superior in the deep snow than the Cat pro climb.

DPG

With as much as I was out this season I'm surprised we didn't run into each other on the mountain. We probably logged close to 30 days up in the Thayne/Star Valley area this year.

In all seriousness if you see us out there don't be afraid to say hi. Would love to see the difference/similarities between the two builds and meet one of the biggest pot stirrers on the forum lol.

I did all my riding early in the season mostly rode the snake river drainage where the snow was good....Hit Bedford twice both times the snow must of blown down to china or something. Strange year not what were used to seeing in the area as far as bottomless pow pow days. I don't hard pack ride at all it just not my thing been spoiled with riding deep snow all my life. Rode about 700 miles well short of my 1200 to 1500 mile seasons.
