Should I Ditch the Heavy OEM Battery and get a Lightweight Lithium??? ??

Hey Chris,

I will send out one battery today... I was going to send out one of our small case 16-Cells but then just figured it might be easier for you installation wise to get the newer case style that is generally similar to what is in your sled now...I'll send some foam for take up any extra space...

Regards,

We have had good luck with the Ballistic.

Ill have to look, but I think it is 10+ pounds lighter than a serviced Yuasa.

Any insight how they handle cold?
Ballistic says Operating Environment: -18°C (0°F) to 60°C (140°F).
Can't find any info about Antigravity operating temp range.

Extreme Cold weather can effect the initial power the battery produces, but after one start attempt the battery is back to full power because it warms the interior of the battery when the battery puts out energy... This effect is noticed more with the racers using the smallest battery to start big motors... If the correct size battery is used for the motor size then the effect is not really there. We only recommend our 12-Cell and larger batteries for use in extremely cold conditions...
1) On the first start attempt after letting the vehicle sit in freezing weather over night the turn over might be slower... this is due to the molecules within the battery itself needing to be warmed by an amperage discharge...but on the second start attempt (if even needed) the battery will regain its full power back because it has had an amp discharge which self warms the battery.... This is true of lead acid batteries also but the key is our batteries will get stronger after a start attempt where as Lead/acid gets weaker.

Hey Christopher
Its brian, It was nice meeting you and talking everything Nytro at the Salt Lake City Snow Show a few weeks ago. Amber H. told me to go over and introduce myself and talk to you a little about the Skinz Concept front end you were installing this year. Anyway I wanted to thank you for doing this thread because it was perfect timing for me since my battery died at the end of last season so i was looking to replace it with a lightweight one at the start of this season. Keep up the good work on this and the skinz post. I am thinking of going with a 16 cell antigrvity battery after emailing scott Now i just have to come up with the fundage to pay for it

Cool.
Its always nice to meet other SnoWesters in person.

Hope to see this new battery arrive sometime next week.

What we really need are for a couple of our members in SUPER COLD areas to pony up and try these and then report back.

its VERY rare around here to get deep sub-zero temps.

I think the coldest day I rose last year was only -17 early in the morning.

Would like to know how well this battery does at -30 or greater.

:ban: :fish: hehe :)) lol

No response from Christopher, strange :face-icon-small-sho.
I have decided to go with an AntiGravity, an 16 cell because of the cold days!
As info, oem battery is an Yuasa YTX14, and with that cold starting was no problem, last couple of years i have used an Yuasa YTZ10 and that can not handle cold, i've had to jumpstart it with my old YTX14 hooked up parallell, this year i hope to avoid that!

Got my Antigravity 16 cell today, sure is light and tiny, much lighter than i thought it would be, and it sure does spin the motor over fast.

Did you get the old style or the new style case around it?

From talking to them they are right smack in the middle of changing how they enclose the batteries.

Thats whats causing a delay in mine.

I got the old style, i wanted the smaller one to allow more room for my coolant line to run to the van amburg tunnel. Seems to me it was well worth the money, just have to see how it does when it gets cold, but i have no doubt that its going to spin it over just like it was warm

Ya i believe the larger one would be a much better fit for anyone that doesnt need the extra room, im going to have to design and make up a new bracket to hold down the smaller battery
