Shortening shocks to fit Pro RMK?

I liked the piggyback clickers that came on my Assault and would like to put a set of take offs on my 11 Pro RMK. I have looked into alternatives like revalving, having holtz upgrade mine, or going aftermarket with exits or raptors. I think this gives me the most shock for the money. I have read on this forum that the track shocks are the same length and a direct replacement but that the front shocks are too long and need to be "shortened." I don't mind cutting them down to fit my Pro RMK but has anybody done this and how do you do it?

Guys at Raptor are super helpful. Give them a call, go to the source. I would prolly sell what you have and swap to the right one new from them though. Maybe $300 difference.

Kill two bords in one stone, buy the zbros assault narrow a-arms. Stronger and fits the assault shocks.

When I've asked for narrower Assualt replacements nobody seems to make any? Can you post a link to them? Z-Bros shows 41.5" min widths.

Don't know if they still make them. But I had some 39" Zbros Assault arms on my 2011. Just call or email them and ask :)

You would need to shorten both the body and the shaft.

Contact John in the Service dept at Walker Evans racing (888)933-7223.

Have your extended and compressed length of BOTH what you HAVE and what you WANT.

You might be surprised at the affordable cost. It's also cool, because the shocks are checked out at the same time.

Please post up your results when you find out.

pro shocks

just have your Pro shocks re valved for your weight with the clickers added $179 each from Holz

Thanks everyone for your input. It looks like it would cost more than I thought to have Assault shocks shortened. I think the best low-cost upgrade would be the Holtz piggyback upgrade. I would love to put on raptors or exits but thats a little bit more than I would like to spend. I should probably give the stock shocks a chance.

Raptor springs on the stock shocks with '13 valve specs is what I will be running this year. From the garage boondocking I've done so far, I think I'm gonna be happy - especially for what I paid.

I bought a set of front Raptor shocks, and his rear springs for my spring/hardpack pro with a camo 155 track.
Amazing difference! Good in the soft,, and takes the hits like a champ!
i'm 150# and was bottoming out the stock shocks way too much. I wish I would have ponied up and bought his rear shocks as well.
I also bought a full set of Raptor springs to install on stock Pro shocks to compare to bone stock Pro (will post that after I ride both side by side). Hard to beat for the price!
I have the Fox Evols on my IQR with Holz setup, super smooth, and really adjustable, but I really like the spring over, after too many WE air shock blow outs.
Customer service from Raptor is amazing.

I had this same issue in 09 when the assault came out with the 18.5" front shock. I put a set on my dragon, that's when the dragon had their pos springless shocks. What I did was take the collar off the end of the shock on the shaft side, it's threaded on took the shocks into a buddy that has a machine shop had him cut off 1" from the end and rethread the shaft to match the original. Put the collar back on, they worked fine. The shaft is now shorter than the body so you could bottom out the shock but if the springs are adjusted correct that shouldn't happen. They worked fine for me. It was a cheap fix to make the shocks work.
Good luck.
