shockwave helix

I updated my helix this year and got the shockwave. (turbo apex). am a little frustrated at the change. did as recomended and put the secondary back to what i had at the end of last season, worked great. the only change was the helix set to the same angle and now I cant keep the thing off the rev limiter. the only fix I came up with was turn down the boost, not my kinda answer.

has anyone else had this from the shockwave or have ideas on what to look for.. clutches are clean and not overheating, belts good and not slipping. any help would be aprciated..

it stopped hitting when you turned down the boost?

how about putting some more weight in the primary?

I never had that kind of problem with the shockwave..have you tried adjusting it? Did it get better or did you get belt slippage?

Try going a little steeper on the angle and see if it gets better or worse. I have found that no two brands of hilexes measure out the same. The shockwave is probably a little shallower. This would cause an over rev.

There is alot involved like your Primary setup, secondary spring, twist, elevation, boost, etc.........
What helix did you run last year? If you turn the adjuster all the way in and back it out 2 turns assuming everthing else is good, you should be fairly close with your shockwave. If you need Rpm on the hill tighten the adjuster, if not loosen it.

If it hits the limiter when you hit it hard it definitely needs more weight in the primary. Seen a couple of clutches where the adjustable helix was steepened too much in order to pull down the rpm and it builds lots of heat and will wreck your sheaves. How much boost and what weights are you running? Seems the 8BU's always hit the limiter on the Apex when taking off hard. The helixes work really well for fine tuning for conditions, which is what they are for. You did put the secondary spring back in with the same amount of preload as your original helix?

what kinda secondary spring????? What kinda clutch weight Supertips. My stuff works great 15 lb of boost

setup

I have super tips, loaded heavy washers in the heal 8 brass in the middle and three in the tip. stock secondary spring that i used to have extra twist in now its same as stock.
it hit the limiter out of the hole and at speed. its acting like it needs more weight. But the confuseing part of this is that it ran great last season and the only change was the helix.
I didnt put the stock one back, didnt bring it with me. i am takeing it next time.

helix

ok not that it really matters but I finnally got the helix figured out. I removed it took some fine sand paper and buffed out the ramps then took some aluminum polish and really smoothed them out. doesnt sound like a lot but made a huge diff. could not pull rpm after that and ended up adding back the twist and dropin the angle back.. this may have fixed itself with a couple more rides but for reference if anyone gets one they may think about doing it up front to avoid hassle. julio

I have a shockwave and supertips in mine. I was using the stock helix prior to the shockwave running about 15 psi. After installing the shockwave, I noticed it would get into the rev limiter on the launch. When I adjusted the helix to get it out of the rev limiter, it would drop off too much on the top end. I'll have to take a look at the surface finish on mine. Maybe it just needs a little polish.

Looked at purchasing a shockwave and I think I will. This adjustable helix tunes clutching, when one thing changes so does the next thing in line (in your case weight). Tune this helix for best backshift then adjust weight to suit. It is quite possible that the helix just freed up alot of extra HORSEPOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toss that stock secondary spring in the trash, WAY too soft. Ever let off fast or when stuck have your belt stay at the bottom of the secondary ? Also, a stiffer spring will have alot better on off on response.

Buy a EPI a/c purple, twist it at 1 and 0. You'll fall in love.

please help

06 turbo apex. just installed regulator, fuel pump and shockwave. ran last year great @ 9-10 #. this year 20#'s and i can't get revs up. under load only revs to 9200rpm. on flat hard trail i can get 10200rpm. cant figure what the problem would be?

Like Darko says or I suggest a Cat SnoPro green torsional as your replacement. Don't forget to twist it too. A full two person twist is required for stock spring and it messes with your backshifting and response IMO.
