Shocks for jumping

I'am planing on getting new shocks for my pro rmk -13 That can handle jump's and drops. I've been playing around with small drops and jumps, and are bottuming the shocks.

After I got i dirtbike this summer and are starting to hit bigger and bigger jumps, I want to upgrade my sled.

So i Guess i need New shocks front and back? and what is the cheapest brand? and what do you guys recommend and why?

Middle of the road are Exits. They are great shocks and offer tons of options. With that said it really comes down to how they are valved for your specific needs. Have a really good shock guy build the shocks to your specs. I personally stay away from fox floats, they are they only shock to let me and my riding partners down in the hills. We have blown out several evolve X's and trust me it is a real blast riding a sled out of the hills with a collapsed shock.

It is not just the shocks, it's more about the springs and the whole suspension set-up and landing hardness.
Exits fox and zbros are a good start but talk to someone to have a custom set done. Save the stock stuff so when you sell the sled it will be the way 98% of the people ride.
Expect to drop over 2k.

What about sending off the stockers and have them set up for you? Made a night and day difference on my 13 Pro when Z-Broz set me up with one of there spring kits. Going to have my stockers revalved by Carls for this winter.

Raptor shocks, awesome service, name will set you up for how you ride and weight.

Anyone tried the Raptor triple rate coil overs for their stock Walker Evans shocks? Just saw them on Raptors website and am thinking that's not such a bad deal.

I've got Exits on my Pro and they work great for everything I do...boondocking in the winter and sending it in the spring. Can't go wrong

So many racers and mtn riders who jump more and bigger than I ever will use FOX float Evol R's and X's...c'mon
I have personally never seen a factory FOX float blown out on the mountain leaving anyone to ride home on a fully collapsed shock in the last 6 seasons on the floats of all flavors. Not saying it doesn't happen, but the dozens of sleds I have personally ridden with leads me to conclude it is an anomaly on shocks that aren't somehow neglected or previously damaged. Thousands of units on the snow on factory equipped sleds as well. Crazy reliable...

The only air shock I have ever seen that "leaked" was an early model with a separate aftermarket reservoir added to it that failed after that aftermarket piece a smacked tree...
As has been said many times before here if you are on Float II's or better, they are competitive with most others for the overwhelming majority of the mere mortal huckers.

I couldn't agree more and will add that the technology (including seals and damping) has evolved dramatically within the last two years (especially for Evols) and most making the negative comments have NOT ridden the newer versions so take their advice with a grain of salt. The beauty of Evols is that you can change air pressures to go as big as you want and then air back down for the ride out if you want. Personally I've found a great balance using a setup that Chris Burandt helped me with that is now set and forget. If you go coil over then you need to go dual (or even triple) rate springs to prevent bottoming. That adds even more weight (like 10 pounds more than Evol R's) so... to each their own!

Have FUN!

Ive seen fox floats blown out time and time again.

Personally run the Exit shox. Quality, durability. I know they will handle everything I throw at them and provide me smooth landings. Call Laramie or Nate at Zbroz. They will custom build the shox for your riding weight!

I ran fox float evol x last year and had no problem with big jumps or drops. I ran them on my quad this year to and hasnt let me down yet.

Then I would argue you are not a mere mortal hucker and riding with some crazies in that mysterious 5%:face-icon-small-ton

Could you elaborate on what the conditions of the jumping and the models were that you've seen blown out time and time again? It's always interesting to me when personal experiences are so different. I'm guessing it's because you guys are out on the ragged edge.

My experience riding with a large group of people jumping what I would call light to medium stuff, mostly up to 100' feet total (I'm not talking about 100' cornice drops!) over and over and over again, day after day, many years over, never actually seen one collapse. I don't believe we have all been lucky, they have been very reliable. Btw 40-50' seems to be getting big for me now so I'm not trying to sound cool.

I also hold nothing against the other coil over shock brands (other than the added weight) IMO FOX has some great reliable stuff especially at the evol level.

I have blown out multiple float x's in different rear suspensions. I decided to try EXITs. The guys at ZBROZ talked to me in depth and detail about what my expectations for the shock performance were and what kind of riding I would be putting them through along with my size. I have now ran their shocks on my last 4 sleds and will continue to do so. I have used them on cat m series, pro rmk with 39 inch front end, 36 inch front end, and timbersled front end. I also ran them on the rear suspensions on those sleds as follows cat with 2011 timbersled, 2 pro rmks with 2012 & 2013 timbersled, and pro rmk with timbersled rear arm conversion.

I wanted them setup for aggressive boondocking and capable of handling big drops and jumps that aren't always as smooth as I hope for. They have not disappointed and continue to give me the confidence in my sled to look for more. Their service is excellent and as mentioned, they build the shocks for you and your expectations.

From their website www.zbrozracing.com
"All Exit shocks come with our ride quality guarantee. If for any reason your not satisfied with the way they are performing. Just call us within the first 30 days of use. We will re spring, and re valve until you are satisfied, no charge ."

For the guys that say they are blowing out floats... what exactly are you blowing out??

Matt... I've had one of your blown Float X's in my hand... more of a hydraulic problem on that one from cranking up the compression and blasting a landing.

I've seen an equal amount of Floats and Spring shocks blow out... especially when they are 'cranked' up.

I've yet to see an air chamber seal blow because of a hard landing... but I have seen blown air chamber seals... to be fair to fox though, MOST Float owners don't do the prescribed maintenence by adding the Fox fluid to the air chamber to keep the seals lubricated. The pressure is the same weather you land hard and compress the shock fully.. or "G" out a bump and compress the shock fully.

Also... Phatty and Matt are both Elite level riders that huck stuff I wouldn't throw a snowball off of... and they have HUGE respect from me.
