Sharp Stock boards on PRO ?

I put 1000 miles of mountain riding on these boards last season and they didn't wear down my motorfist boots much at all. I also never ripped any of my clothes falling on the boards. My opinion is that these boards are the best made and give great traction. I also think 99% of the time you fall and hit your shin or knee on the running boards is because you don't have the traction you need. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE BOARDS THE WAY THEY ARE!

They are easy to love until you shred a $350 pair of pants or jacket. Anybody wearing Klim Stealth gear is really going to cry after a close encounter with the boards.

So what happens when you wreck and get twisted in with the track, burn a hole on that fancy gear?
Tunnel Side Skirts?
I get it, you dont want to damage your gear?
Its not as bad as you guys make it out to be?
I have logged a couple thousand miles on my airframes and only one small hole.
I personally say dont ruin the traction you have from these great boards, you round off the traction and you are more likely gonna slip off the boards and damage your gear on the semi dull boards anyways.
Either way, its your sled, your call.

I agree damage can happen at any time and this is a dangerous sport and accidents happen. I get that completely. My dealer also told me that if I use a cover on this sled i need to put the black foam on the boards or the covers will get ripped to shreds. I guess I just think you don't need that much traction on the outer edge of the board. I totally get it on the meat of the board where you stand. If you need that much traction on the outermost edge of the board your not riding the sled right. :)

I guess lets use my avatar picture as an example. Freak accident that bucked me off the sled. No amount of traction would have kept me on the sled at all. Thankfully I did not land on the sled, but if I had landed on the boards on that sled it would have hurt and bruised but no real damage would have occurred. Now take the 2013 & 2014 boards if I did the same thing and landed on the boards i would be missing a few chunks of my leg, arm, back front or what ever hit that board. I guess I started this thread to see how many people have had problems in the short year that it has been out there. My WRP boards had great traction and they are not sharp at all. I guess Polaris had to make them sharp because they put the peaks the wrong way in my opinion. They should have put a few of those perpendicular to the tunnel so you had some traction without having to have the sharp edges grab your boot.

I think they are a bit over kill myself was planning to chamfer them down a bit. Drop a knee and it will hurt.

I got more holes in my pants from the stock M outers than the stock Pro boards due to less slipping off.

I put on Airframes and will be sporting some shin/knee guards this season. I fall off a lot.

Hehe I fall off alot to. Maby stupid sometimes to try making like a indian jump back on the seat sometimes instead of just letting go of the handles.

Work hard, play hard. Live fast, die young. ;)

I have Airframes on my sleds and the screws are sharper and harder than stock Pro boards. I wear hard knee braces that cover the knee and shin and I do have holes in my Klim pants. I like the traction and just put up with the damage to the sled gear. Even if you break those edges you better be wearing knee and shin protection. Airframes should come with a set, just kneeling on a screw would put a hole in your knee cap, falling on one would be like getting shot.

Seems like alot of you guys are concerned about your gear. I have seen pictures of a knee that hit the board, the cut was so deep it cut tendons in the guys knee. His sledding season was over.
Use kneepads or grind the sharp edges down just a bit, they dont need to be sharp as razorblades.

boards

I took the backside edge off each spur to keep from shredding boots, seems a guy is always kicking forward to eliminate snow. I did however leave the front side sharp because the grip is nice to keep myself toward the front of the sled. Still has the potential to tear gear and/or shins i suppose...

They are sharp. I haven't had an issue - yet.

I kept the foam covers that came on the sled from the dealer. I put them on in the garage so none of the family bumps into them. That could be hard on a toddler.

I have fell off my sled so many times I have lost count and I have never been cut by the running boards(bruised yes). Just get a good set of pants with cordura as the outer layer and some padding. If you are really worried about it buy some knee/shin guards. I actually think my fathers base RMK 600 has sharper edges on the running boards...

I have a buddy that didn't have to worry about his running boards.

he got bucked off when he @ucked off, his sled got a lil frisky an rolled up on her back to welcome him back, hitting his sack on a rolling track. He landed with a loud holler, when the sled gave him a baller. his eyes rolled back in pain grabbing his main vein, shortly before I came. He had a tear in his eye as he stared at the sky. I handed him a beer and told him of my fear of havin' the toys playin' with the boys.
