Sharp Stock boards on PRO ?

So does anybody else think these are too sharp on the boards? I am thinking of filling down the corners like the second picture down the entire board. I am just afraid that if you fall off or stumble against your shin it's going to cut you up bad. Any body else filed theirs down.

one of the comments was "5 pairs of boots and a shin graph later, rob buys airframes" hahaha

i would just de-bur the corners if i were you

some of us arnt epic snowmachine gods like you are...and dont like having pants ripped and boots torn up, which cost money to replace

Yes, thank you Roff.
I am sure the STOCK polaris boards are far to dangerous to the MASS who all have bought them.
The stock boards are not to sharp, if you feel you need to file them down to keep from getting scratched by them do so. I dont believe they are anywhere near dangerous enough to justify that though.
So tell me Roff, are you planning on grinding down your boards when you sled arrives?
Please post up some pics when you do!

not as afraid of getting hurt, but ripping some of my clothes, while i wont file them down ill probably de-bur the edges which will come into contact with my boots the most or the ones closest to my pants

I don't think they are too sharp at all but i am not saying they wont hurt lol. Any running board nowadays can rip you up pretty good if you don't have the right gear on and you fall off the sled just right.

Boot traction is key! I might even sharpen mine up for this year :face-icon-small-con greatest stock boards ever made!

Absolutely going to take off the sharp edges on mine. Like said before . . . pants and boots are too expensive to have cut up by these razor sharp edges. Little dremel tool works great!

I totally get boot traction but at what point is it too much? My brother had the 08 skidoo and after 500 miles he had to buy new boots because the boards ripped them up so bad. Also I just see bad things happening with these boards. I guess you can say if you don't fall off once in a while you aren't trying hard enough. ;) with that said I fell off a couple time last year and my arm hit the board on the way down and I can guarantee you if I was on this 14 sled with these runners I would have a huge gash in my elbow. These were my boards on the 11 PRO. While I did fall off a couple times it was never because I didn't have traction. Sometimes you just get bucked off weird.

I have considered sanding the edges down a little bit. I shredded a Klim jacket on my boards last year.

I love them! Despite my near horror story!

Last year I went to hop from one side to the other coming around a tree with the sled air born. Missed the board and somehow ended up with one leg dragging under the running board and the other on top of it so I was basically straddling that razor sharp running board face down. Yes that means that thing was dragging right along my member and the sled was still moving while I was stopped. Fortunately, it missed very slightly and just cut my inner leg up a bit and shredded my pants pretty good. Got them all fixed up now and ready to ride!

That was a freak accident and wouldn't have felt that great on any sleds running board. I always wear shin/knee guards so I don't have to worry about my leg so much. Honestly never ripped my pants other than that one time. I would say the traction with the boards is worth the risk haha. I guess if they can be dulled a bit without completely losing your footing it might be worth it but I wouldn't get to carried away. Hell even my boots still look brand new after last year and I rode a lot. I think the biggest thing for the boots is the boards cleaning out so well you don't have to spend a lot of time kicking along those sharp edges.

My brother in law took a flat file to his and just took the point off. They are still plenty sharp to cut any ice off with a stomp, but not sharp enough to cut thru skin on the back of your hand... I'd file 'em... my .02

If you get a wire wheel and are gentle with it you will break the sharp edges nicely. Another thought would be a grey wheel(deburring wheel) or a scotch brite wheel. Just a light touch and it will take of the sharp edge. Also you could just go to town with a small file if you have alot of time on your hands.

I just took a file the the rear ones for about 10 -15 minutes and got about 6 of the notches done. The outer edge is my main concern.

I do agree with everyone stock boards are sharp but I need grip in sticky situations I know it's there. I mean I will take wreking. A 400.00 pair of pants over. A 13000.00-15000.00 sled.. But the best way to make em not as sharp is powdercoat them. Snow won't stick thus less snow weight. And edges aren't as sharp. I did that and it's night and day different on snow build up. But I had to add a few ice screws for some added traction. Just my 2 cent

Yep they are sharp, dont forget to use knee-pads. :face-icon-small-coo

But I´m not grinding them down. Got a tough scar to impress the ladies with now ;)
I did use kneeguards, but there was a little gap between the boot I used at that moment and the kneepads (..had forgotten to bring my normal Klim boots on that trip).
Had to use some Armani-aftershave as cleaning-alcohol.

OUCH!!! Daaallmmm!! That is what i hope to avoid!

Cheers!

Yep that's exactly what I want to avoid too. I've hit my shin before but never have had a tear in pants or cut my leg. Thanks for confirming my suspicion with these boards. I will be filing down the outer edges now for sure.
