Servicing your ski bolts!!!

What about a stainless bolt then???

Just asking, may be worth the $.

The sleeve is steel, it would still corrode. I think that as long as they are greased even just once, they should be good for quite a while.

I agree with the drain holes in the bottoms of the skis. I drill mine just off center of the skag so they will hopefully not get burred up by gravel and get plugged, yet still drain. I think having the excess water pooling up under the spindle and keeping the bolt/sleeve submerged is accelerating the corrosion process. The bolt is not supposed to turn inside the sleeve. The sleeve is slightly wider than the spindle so that it rotates inside the spindle where the grease should be. Either add a zerk and use religiously or disassemble annually for a good lube job. I would consider using anti-seize on the bolt during assembly to minimize corrosion between it and the sleeve.

Just finished pulling my ski's for the first time in 3 years. Yep, plenty of rust and corrosion on the bolt, sleeve, and spacers. I cleaned everything up and put a thin coat of silver anti-sieze on bolt and sleeve. I also drilled some 1/8" drain holes in four places on the inside of each ski next to the skag. You can see two of the drain holes in this picture (hard to get in really close)

Good pic, easy to see why I drill my skiis, they look like crap all rusted up. I drilled mine closer to the center but really no difference.
