Sentimental 04' 1M rebuild??? Need help

Crank, cylinder no good, some goodies on there though

I have a theory of how this sled imploded.
Crank and that cylinder are junk!
Has sled junky's head, cpi pipe, carb'd motor, ran at low elevation by his father after his passing a few years back.
Pictures to come. Has Attack 20 track with some life left in it.
I have the sled here in Layton and would like to get a few hours into it soon.

There is a Guy in the swap meet with a new cat crank for $600. You will need that for sure. Is the case okay? Its pretty common for that rod bearing to go out and do what you see in the pics. You sure the case is okay? Usually when the broken rod hit the bottom of the case it will put a hole in it or at least crack it.

Did you pull the whole motor or just the top end off in the sled??

Can see right down into the cases, head/cylinder etc is off.
Wouldn't mind getting some opinions on it this weekend.

I'm on call this weekend so need to stay in salt lake. You could bring it down. Maybe pull the whole motor. If your cylinder, case, crank and head is shot, I'd look for a whole. I know this is a sentimental rebuild, but you're looking at putting $2000-$3000 into a sled that's only worth $3000ish. You have to decide how much this is worth to you. There is some major carnage in those pics.

Dan....the engine is not looking too good from those pics. Maybe we need to look for a new engine? I'll snoop around and see what I can find. I'll be between Smokindodge, Product Tester, and a few others of us who rode those sleds we have enough parts to put a whole engine together.

$2100-$3000 for either a 03' or 04' carb'd 900 complete on ksl. It would be nice to get a full motor as well any other number of things i.e. track or electronics.
I would say, it's pretty certain the cases/cylinders/crank is junk. I will check the head, pipe, valves, can etc and go from there.

1160BB would be badazz. I have priced out a few "intact" sleds. Looking `2500$ for the entire sled. My concern is, if I piece one together I will be constantly chasing parts i.e. electrical, chasis etc. I have seen most of the 1M anywhere from $2100-3000. Monetarily, machine is only worth $2500 in running order. Sentimental is something of another animal though.
I will talk with the Robinsons and see what they want to do.
