Is Wy hurting for money too?? I got pulled over for doing 33 in a 30 in town and going through a light I would call yellow, possibly orange....not red. If the roads were dry and not patchy ice i would have stoped but since i would have slid into the middle of the intersection i just kept on it. $147 was the grand total there. Wy may be broke but so am I, it might be a few months before they get their money.
I have used the below letter to get WSP speeding tickets reduced to either non-moving vio;ations or actually deferred for one year if no further citations. The angle here is that WA State Patrol doesn't seem to give a very generous cut to the local courts that prosecute their citations. There is no love loss between the County Deputy prosecutor and the WSP Troopers who flood them wih low revenue tickets.
Find out who the Deputy Prosecutor is for Whitman County and modify the letter to reflect yout citation. My bet is that he will either offer you a tail light or expired tabs in exchange for the bail amount. Even though I offer to pay double, they have never requested that in the deal.
I have tickets that have been reduced or deferred in most all WA County's. The latest trend seems to be a "one year deferral" where the ticket is dropped if no further citations in one year, or double the bail amount on the original if you get a second citation in that year.
The letter really points out just how local law enforcement and judicial systems are really gophers for the big insurance companies that stand to make the real money jacking up your premiums based on the records created by WSP and the County court.
Hope you get a good deal. Here the letter I use:
Mr.
Deputy Prosecutor
Stevens Co. Dist. Court
Re: Citation # I04363032 WSP
Dear Mr. :
I am writing this letter in hopes of reaching a negotiated out of court settlement with regard to the above mentioned citation.
If you are so inclined, I would be willing to pay an amount in excess of the listed bail to have the charge recorded to a non moving violation. As a business owner of several passenger and commercial vehicles, the result of a moving violation allows my insurance carrier to make thousands in increased premiums based on the work and expense of Stevens County who gives them this information free of charge.
In short, if I appear in court I will have used the time of the issuing officer, and the courts time to see and process me all in exchange for $50 or so in fines if I plead guilty. My insurance carrier on the other hand will use this information to raise my rates on both personal and commercial coverage’s that will be in the thousands of dollars. They will have no expense utilizing the information that Stevens County has provided them to use as justification for rate increases. They must laugh all the way to the bank knowing that Stevens County made $50 to provide them with the ability to make thousands.
It seems to me that there should be a “Stevens County Quick Pay Violation” option that would allow me to pay the County double the regular penalty to not be charged with a moving violation that only benefits insurance carriers. Under this situation the County would gain $142 rather than $71 for mail in payments, and not use up valuable court time just to reduce the amount collected to $50. While I appreciate the reduction that I get for appearing, I don’t understand why the courts actually charge less for using up their valuable time. Whew!!!
That said, I am willing to pay a fine of $142 instead of $71 in exchange for a non moving violation, or if not, please schedule me a court date and I will give the additional cost that I will realize to a local attorney rather than my insurance provider.
Thank you for your time.
So I'm just north of Steptoe on 195 on dry roads keeping pace with traffic at 63, the posted limit is 60. I see the car that just went by me headed south hit the brakes and flip around. Look down and I'm doing 63, keep tooling down the road and here come the lights. Chit. I pull over and he says "Do you know how fast you were going?" I tell him that I thought between 60 and 63. "No, you were doing 65"So I hand over all the paperwork and he goes back to his car. I figure he is going to run my info and tell me to slow it down a little. NOPE, he comes back and hands me a ticket for 65 in a 60. $93.00! They must love out of staters up there, knowing they aren't going to drive the 300 miles to fight a BS ticket. Washington must be hurting for cash eh?
Have never been issued a speeding ticket before in my life. Been pulled over a dozen or so times.
Taking on the police/sheriff account at the gunshop to maintain the deputies weapons has paid off in a big ole way![]()
that sucks too bad they cannot do something like solve a crime, oh wait then they would actually have to put on their thinking caps. Do police work for the DOR?
WA is not so bad. I got pulled over in '02 going 68 in a 55, had no proof of insurance (I was insured) and tabs were expired, with the new tabs sitting on my dash. Cop just wrote me a warning and put my new tabs on for me when he left!
Must have known you were a big time film producer?
BTW Tom, I never did get my 509 swag...
