Hi all - have an 03 Summit 700. Has been a good sled for me so far, but it developed a strange-ish problem yesterday.
I rolled it down a steep hill. Rookie mistake, riding up a steep hill, had been on the left side of the sled to get it pointed uphill, did not get centered fast enough, it kept bearing left/started traversing, moving to the right side of the sled, I got far enough up that the sun was RIGHT in my eyes, which let me see the tree that was directly in front of me! yikes. So, I aborted the mission, did not get on the uphill side fast enough, down I went. Sled rolled 4 or 5 times, I managed to roll out of the way. No harm, no foul, beyond windshield bits scattered everywhere.
Annoyingly enough, the sun in the eyes tricked me - once I got my bearings, I could see that the tree was actually ~100' farther up. Oh well.
A very nice sledder came to help me get it back on it's feet - was funny, he and his friend rode past, one on each rail, going ~30ish, the guy that helped just jumped off - it was like a Navy Seal getting dropped out of a speeding boat. SUPER helpful, I could probably have gotten it on it's feet by myself, but I suspect it would have rolled away - he was able to get the parking brake on & help me roll it over. Awesome. Snowmobilers are good people.
So - no harm, no foul, but something strange did start happening. It took ~8 pulls to get it going, was a bit boggy at first, got it cleaned out, rode it around a bit more, then headed to the truck. When I got to the bottom, it had started smoking at idle - pretty badly, like cold-start smoking. It has always smoked when stone cold, for a minute or two, no big deal - but once warm, it NEVER smoked. What could I have done? Could the oil-feed-thing be stuck open? Does turning them upside down let oil get into something?
It did not IMMEDIATELY happen, mind you - once I got it started again & cleaned out (I expected it to be hard to start and a bit grumpy at first, but it was cleaned out and normal-behaving within 1/4 mile), it was fine. It did not start the bad smoking until the trip down - whooped out road. If I got on it, it'd clear out, but if I had to stop/slow down, it'd start smoking again, pretty badly.
Thoughts? Is this somehow "normal"? Could the oil injector be stuck open? It sat upside down for ~2 minutes while I regrouped.
Thanks!
Iain
