selling/trading sled across border

I posted this in general section too. Looking for answers.

I am selling a sled and live in Washington. I have had a lot of interest from buyers in Canada. I would like to be able to take a sled on trade as part of the deal and I have a couple of questions. First, being in Washington, our state doesn't title snowmobiles, what do I need to do? Second, what paperwork is required to make a trade and where is best place to do it. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

Canada

I would have them bring the trade down to WA. If you email them a copy of your registration then they can do the paperwork @ the border before they come down. PM me your number if you have any other questions.

I bought a motorcycle in Canada last year and had to do a little research.

First of all, a Canadian cannot cross the border with a vehicle for the purpose of a sale. Bring it in, take it home.

You can travel there to complete the transaction. What I did was to call the border crossing you intend to use, ask for a supervisor, explain what you want to do and ask what you will need. Record the name of the person you talk to. The reason for this is that the answers will vary from one office to the next.

I had to cross into Canada, meet the seller, bring the bike back (No title as it was a 1974 model and Alberta didn't title bikes back then), show a bill of sale, have the VIN inspected and get a form from Customs to present to DMV back home......No duty for me to pay, as it was more than 25 yrs old....U would probably pay duty if bringing something south......

As far as taking a machine from WA north, take a copy of the registration and complete a bill of sale. They can't require a title when WA doesn't issue titles.......G'luck.
