I have snapped off several sets of stock cat bolts holding helix on. What are some other options? All had plenty of lock tight. The last two sets have snapped off mid bolt. Getting old. Any feedback would be great. 09 bd pgm8.

less torque when attaching helix, don't ever re-use the stock bolts.

If you want a different bolt, there are people using grade 8 bolts from the hardware store, but be careful of clearance.

bolts

i use brighton button head , and have never broken one . and very rarely do i use any lock tight. snug them up . make sure your fully compressed on the spring before tightening.

Secondary bolts.

Mine did this same thing and it was the bushing in the secondary that the sheeve slids on. It wears out and gives the sheeve slop to move around. OVS installed a new one and have had no problem at all.

Use Heat.

Make a small curved heat sheid to protect the helex. Torch the head of the bolt, after that thay dont even seem to be tight, you can reuse them,:face-icon-small-hap

This is the best way to get red locktight apart.

I'm pretty sure he meant they broke while in use, not durin removal. I had a set of stainless bolts **** the bed and wreck stuff on mine last week.

I have reused the hell out of mine, only time they gave out was when the clutch bolt itself came loose and caused them to break. If you are breaking them that much you might not be clutched right. What is your clutching setup, Springs, weights, helix angle???

Stainless bolts are the worst thing you could use, they are equivalant to a grade 2.

stainless and aluminum...

bad combination due to the Galvanic reaction they cause with each other, especially on untreated threads. threads will eventually turn to powder and fail.

The stainless bolts were a fad don't bother, the bottom line is check them often if you catch it early no problem. I dont think I have seen a cat that didn't have a issue with these from time to time.
