sec. spring rate question

This may be kind of a novice question, but I've never really taken the time to understand the effects of changing secondary springs.
Assuming I leave everything else the same, weights, helix, primary spring, what effect does a change in the secondary spring rate have. The spring I am looking at has the same finish rate, but has a 10 lb. heavier initial rate. 150 vs. 160.
Someone educate me please.
TIA

A stiffer spring will cause a faster back shift but it will slow the up shift and keep the revs higher. A shallower helix will do the same thing.
