Seat pocket.

Got my alpha. Seat pocket has an opening that goes to foam. Took seat off. Looks deliberate. Is this normal? Maybe so the pump fits in there?

Electric start is a different seat. Your battery is sitting where they are talking and you likely do not have the holes. Is there even a pocket in the back of your ES seat? Pretty sure there isn't.

no pocket just the wedge shaped back mounted to the tunnel.

the hole is for assembly, can reach in and install cover

It's for your shovel handle; if you want to put it there. But it has to be a short one my HMK don't fit but my old SOS dd.

I put the pump in there one time back in 2013/2014......
Once u try to remove it up on the mountain, u will see why I did it one time.

yes, Cat has had that cut out since the early proclimbs. My 14 had it and I just stuck the handle of the pump into it and never tried to put the actual head of the pump in there, because as mentioned above, it's impossible to get out or get in unless the seat cover is off the sled!
