Let's stay on topic here.
I, along with one other person are the ones that took matters into our own hand and nailed this worthless a-hole. It was my pleasure and I'd do it again.
Why you ask? Because, as has been stated above, police have neither the time nor the interest in solving property crimes unless everything is dropped into their lap. Knowing this, we did the leg work and dropped it into their lap which ended with a raid of over 10 officers paying him a visit 10 days after we picked up the stolen backpack. I know they were very appreciative of our actions and stated that to me at the trial.
The reason for this can be argued all day long but it comes down to not having enough police, the new role police have taken on which is babysitting adults with bad behavior, the lack of real punishment when convicted and an overall drop in societal standards. Too much time is wasted on why the criminal did this.
In Shawn's case where I took the stand for the prosecution, it was clear that his argument was so full of crap that it was embarrassing to even sit an listen to it. His lawyer then tried to imply but pulled just short of calling me a liar and Shawn claimed he never saw me or the pack before. You can take it upon yourself and read the court records. I'm sure it would be found under the "fiction" section of the court proceedings. He lied on the stand a few times that I know of.
The vehicle that was caught on video at I-90's place that was used to break the gate and steal the trailer was then spotted by the owner of I-90 at Shawn's place of crooked business a few days later. Coincidence ? No. He had merchandise that still had the I-90 tags on them that were stored in the back! Lazy? Yes.
I bought an ABS pack from him that clearly belonged to I-90 based on the serial number....did that just happen to fall into his lap on accident? No.
He was found guilty by the jury on 2 of 7 felony counts. The two counts are the ones I was involved with so ZI feel pretty good about that. If I was on the jury for this, knowing the evidence that was in place, I would have reached the same decision as much as I hate to say it. We were unable to identify the people that drove the truck in the burglary. So it just comes down to the judge. Judge Sparks had an option to sentence him for up to 10 years each for the two felonies he was convicted of. He was facing 20 years going into sentencing
Guess what the judge sentenced him to? 3 months in jail and 6 months home detention. Some might say that is not enough like myself. Some might say it's too much. Either way it doesn't matter. What does matter is that nothing will change with Shawn's behavior. Shawn and his wife were elated that once again, they cheated the system with that sentence
The next time he steals from an unsuspecting customer, a friend of yours, a local business or some random guy, will you step up? I did.
